I've never worked with gingerroot before & the recipe calls for it to be peeled...this may be a stupid question, but how do you peel it? Is it plyable where it can be done with my fingers, or should I use a veggie peeler? Paring knife?

Thanks for your insight!

I use the paring knife to cut off a piece and then peel it with one of our peelers. Works great!

I use a veggie peeler. And I try not to buy a really bumpy one, in the first place!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to peel gingerroot for a Lemony Gingertini?

The best way to peel gingerroot is to use the edge of a spoon. Simply hold the ginger in one hand and scrape the spoon along the skin to remove it. This method minimizes waste and is effective for getting into the nooks and crannies of the ginger.

Do I need to wash the gingerroot before peeling it?

Yes, it’s important to wash the gingerroot under running water to remove any dirt or debris before peeling. This ensures that you’re working with clean ginger and helps maintain the flavor of your Lemony Gingertini.

Can I use a vegetable peeler to peel gingerroot?

While you can use a vegetable peeler, it may not be the most efficient method due to the irregular shape of gingerroot. A spoon is often recommended for better control and to avoid wasting the ginger.

How much gingerroot do I need for a Lemony Gingertini?

What should I do with the leftover ginger peels?

You can compost the ginger peels or use them to infuse flavor in stocks or broths. They can also be added to smoothies for extra nutrition, so don’t throw them away!
