It's hot hot hot here and DS has his championship baseball game tonight...so I'm turning on the gas grill for quick burgers and dogs.

On an alternate note, anyone have a tried and true layered salad recipe for me to bring to the baseball party in a couple weeks?

The summer berry salad on CC (with the stars and stripes theme) is really good, and refreshing. It's basically romaine, cucumber, julienne carrots, red onion, sliced strawberries and blueberries. And Kraft poppyseed dressing is fantastic with it!I still don't know what we're having for dinner. We had beef last night, so should have chicken. But it's hot here, too, and I don't feel like moving, let alone cooking.

We are having Kielbassa with bell peppers and onions served "wrap" style. As in flour tortillias vs, hoagie rolls.

might do a micro cake for desert...

When the trifle bowl came out, we had a taste testing party for trifles. The one that was the hit was:

Handful salad:

handful of sliced strawberries
handful sliced red onion
small can mand oranges
handful of candied walnuts
romaine lettuce
raspberry vingarette dressing

So yummy!

I have not tried the layered salad, but the one crystal posted sounds sooooo good. I will have to try it!

At my last cooking show I demo'd the quiche lorraine tartlets and the host prepared the Strawberry Spinach salad. The guests RAVED about the salad. I then made it for a MK party that I hosted for a friend and again, the guests would not leave without the recipe.

It's not a layered salad, but very very good.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some refreshing salad options for a summer baseball party?

For a summer baseball party, consider making a classic pasta salad with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Another great option is a watermelon and feta salad, which combines sweet and savory flavors. A simple garden salad with mixed greens, cucumbers, and a light vinaigrette is also a crowd-pleaser.

How can I make a salad that can be prepared in advance for a baseball party?

To prepare a salad in advance, choose ingredients that hold up well, such as quinoa or couscous as a base. You can mix in vegetables like bell peppers and carrots, and add a protein like grilled chicken or chickpeas. Keep the dressing separate until serving to prevent the salad from becoming soggy.

What dressing pairs well with summer salads for a baseball party?

A light vinaigrette made with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a touch of honey is perfect for summer salads. You can also try a lemon herb dressing or a creamy ranch dressing for a more indulgent option. Just remember to serve the dressing on the side to cater to different tastes.

Can I include fruits in my salad for a summer baseball party?

Absolutely! Fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and peaches add a refreshing sweetness to salads. You can create a fruit salad or mix fruits into a green salad for added flavor and color. Just be sure to choose fruits that are in season for the best taste.

What are some tips for serving salad at an outdoor baseball party?

When serving salad outdoors, consider using a large, insulated bowl to keep it fresh. Use tongs or serving spoons for easy serving, and provide small cups or plates for guests. If you’re worried about the heat, keep the salad in a cooler until it’s time to serve to maintain its freshness.
