Ann inspired me this morning, so I'm starting early........

Today is Sunday, March 1, 2009.
There are 131 days until National Conference 2009, Wave 1.

As we get closer, tips will be coming! Right now if you can afford it, keep an eye out for flights. There are deals that com San Fran for $220 (cheapest I have ever seen to Chicago).

See you in Chicago!!!!

I know, I am SOOOO excited! I just looked up airfare from Phoenix, AZ this morning and they are about $220 after all fees and taxes!! Last year I spent about $364 on air. I put an email into my AD to see if it would be too premature to jump onto this deal or if we can get a slightly lower rate (based upon the average that my AD has seen in the past 8 years).

I need to make sure that I am walking first before I decide what to wear.... 2 of my team went inactive this month and prospects are not looking very good. I do have a full schedule this month so I will work on the recruiting . Now to get everybody qualified is another thing....

I like to carry on, but that all depends on you. Some airlines charge (who am I kidding most airlines) to check.
For the 3 days of conference business casual (no denim). We have 1 night w/ dinner w/ our exec dirs, some do themes, some people dress up, talk w/ your upline on that one.
Make sure you have walking shoes, lots of walking at the conference center.

I bring capris and cute tops, which is usually what I wear most of the time. This year I'm adding a cute dress to walk across stage as a new director. HTH

Thanks Rae!!!! :chef:

You'll probably only have a few cluster/team meetings between now and NC. Write down anything you want to discuss with your clustermates so you can ask at the meetings. What do they usually do during down time? Do they usually move about as a group or will you be mostly on your own? Do they usually choose expensive restaurants, mid-range meals, or cheap & cheerful cuisine? Your roommates and travel buddies will be good sources of info.

I am posting Rae's tip of the day, maybe I will keep a file this year of all her tips.

Start a file. I keep 2 NC files--1 in a manila folder, the other on my computer. This is where I keep all NC materials--confirmations, receipts, lists, etc. I use the computer file for anything I don't want to waste a lot of paper on. The folder is for anything I might want to take with me (like a hotel confirmation).

Getting organized now helps me to stay organized all the way through NC.

Rae's tip of the day: This brings something important to mind. Always double-check. It's easy to get used to relying on your director, your recruiter, your clustermates, or your friends here at CS for information. We're good, but we're not perfect. The best source of information is the HO. Make sure you're reading what they send and what's posted on CC.

Only 69 days left

Rae's tip fo the day: Begin now making a list of the things you hope to learn at NC. If you’ve never been before, think about what you most want to know. Write down your questions. Read them over frequently. This will plant them in your brain, and you’ll be more likely to recognize an answer when you hear it. That’s one of the best things you can do to prepare your mind for NC.

Rae's Tip of the day::thumbup: I like to look my best at NC. Since I have colored hair in a fairly short style, that means making sure that my cut and color are pretty fresh. I've already set my appointments for the next couple of months so I can make sure I'm feeling cute for NC.

If this is a concern for you as well, you might want to make your appointment now. Make sure your stylist be available when you need him/her. (Funny I set my appointment yesterday since we are camping right before conference)

Rae's tip of the day: Yesterday I talked about looking good. Today I want to remind you to do what you can to make sure you feel good. NC is physically and mentally stressful. It's good stress, but it's still stress. You have just over 10 weeks to prepare yourself. Here are my suggestions:

Make getting rest a priority. If you're not well rested when you arrive, you're likely to struggle. After all, there's lots to do, so you might be staying up late and getting up early. Most people don't sleep as well in a strange bed. Most of us will be sharing a room with others, which can impair your sleep. These won't be as much of an issue if your sleep bank is full to begin with.

Start walking. There is a lot of walking at NC. Get moving now so you won't feel like you've been hit by a truck on day 2.

Eat well. Fueling your body with good food in the weeks ahead is a good way to make sure you're healthy and energetic when you arrive at NC.

Who knows? It's possible that these will become good habits that will become part of a healthy lifestyle that lasts long after this NC.

Danielle no worries!!!:)

Rae's tip of the day: I was able to see the guy from What Not to Wear at an event I worked recently. He pointed out that fit is the first element of style, and when your clothes fit right they'll be comfortable. He also said that on the show they shop for 2 solid days and consider themselves lucky if they find 7 outfits.

If the only clothes you have that would be appropriate for NC aren't comfortable, you need to do something. You can have the clothes you already have altered. Or, you can buy new. Just remember that it can take lots of time to find clothing that fits your body and your budget.

Here are a few more suggestions I gleaned from Clinton Kelly:

Try everything on.

If you can't immediately picture it with at least 3 things already in your closet, don't buy it. You'll be wasting money and closet space.

A bit of alteration (a dart here, hem there) can make all the difference.

Today is Wednesday, May 6th!
Only 65 days left

Rae's tip of the day: Ken Davis shared these ideas on a recent blog. He was talking about how to get the most out of the conferences he does, but I think they translate well to NC.

Make these resolutions to help you maximize your experiences:

1. Resolve to Relax

So many times we go into new situations tense and defensive, fearful of change and concerned about what people will think. We assume a negative posture that stifles creativity and inhibits learning.

Anticipate a great experience
Believe that you will learn something helpful
Don’t set yourself up to compete. You have nothing to prove. Learning is not competition it is absorption. Become a happy Sponge Bob Square Pants. Soak it up!

2. Resolve to Disarm
We put it this way, “Leave your guns at the door.” All those little tricks and stories and shortcuts that you usually use when the pressure is on; the candy stick, shoot from the hip easy way out solutions that keep you from trying new things, leave them at the door.

Open yourself up to learn new techniques. Risk by exploring new ideas. When you leave the conference you can pick up your guns and take them with you. You may not need them anymore. OR you may find them more affective with the new material you have learned. By leaving them at the door you will resist the temptation to depend on them and miss out on learning something new.

3. Resolve to connect
Dive in. Introduce yourself to instructors and other attendees. Ask questions, offer insight. Eat and talk and laugh with other people. TURN YOUR PHONE OFF!

In twenty years of doing workshops I can count on one hand and half of one foot the number of people who said they got nothing out of it. ALL OF THEM remained isolated and refused to get involved with the people around them. Some felt they knew it all. Usually those were sent by someone who knew they didn’t. Others never disconnected from phone - computer - business, so even though they were physically at the conference, mentally they never left the office.

4. Resolve to commit
I ask our students to commit to what we are teaching just for the length of the conference. Long enough to try the principles, get past the discomfort of doing something NEW, and experience the difference it will make in their performance. Once they leave, I give them permission to dump the whole thing and shoot me with the guns they left at the door, BUT BY THEN THEY ARE HOOKED. [Rae's Note: I'd change this just a bit. I'd resolve to commit to the new ideas for more than just the time of the conference. Give yourself a few weeks, a month or two, to try the new stuff.]

The new grip suggested by a golf pro seems intolerable until you commit to practice it until it becomes natural. Only then will you hit the 250 yard drive or sink the 15 foot putt.

Try these resolutions the next time you are at a conference.

Only 64 days left...... The countdown is on, can't wait to see everyone in Chicago.

Rae's tip of the Day: Are your hotel reservations set? If you're staying at a conference hotel, make sure you have all of your roommates listed (with consultant numbers). This really will make things easier in the long run.

Be sure to read through all of the rules and guidelines for conference hotels. You'll want to know your rights and responsibilities just in case.

Rae's Tip of the day: Happy Mothers Day to everyone who shows loving care to others. Whether you've got children of your own or not, you're a mom.

Thinking about Mothers Day got me thinking about expressing appreciation. My recruiter is no longer with PC. While I'm at NC I usually send her a postcard thanking her for what she did to introduce me to the PC business. It's simple, but little things like that often mean a lot. If there is someone who has helped you in your business, consider expressing your gratitude.

Only 59 days left............ Less than 2 months, Wahoo!

Rae's tip of the day: We have just over 2 months before NC. You'll probably have several shows in that time. You'll do host coaching. You'll make lots of calls. Start taking a critical look at what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it's working.

Here are a few reasons I can think of for taking a close look at your business before NC.

1. You'll know what areas to target when you're asking questions and taking workshop notes.

2. You'll know what's working well. You're likely to be asked for tips and advice while at NC. By really studying your business, you'll know what to tell those who ask.

3. You'll have a chance to make your business better before you even go. You may discover areas where you can change or streamline to make your business what you want it to be.

Rae's tip of the day: Make sure you have your roommates' and clustermates' numbers programmed into your phone. That will help you keep track of one another and adjust plans if necessary.

Many of us Cheffers will also share numbers. I program these under "Cheffer - [Name]" in my phone. It makes it easier for my brain to find the person I'm looking for.

I also take a hard copy of all of the numbers (roommates, clustermates, and Cheffers), just in case I have trouble with my phone. If something happens, I want to be able to use another phone to call.

Rae's tip of day

Not taking along a laptop? Go ahead and set up your email auto response today. Most email services let you set a start and end date for vacation responses. I usually set mine to start the day I leave and end a couple of days after I get back. That gives me a little time to get around to reading through all of the emails. I simply say that I’m off learning how to become an even better consultant and getting a sneak peek at the new products that will be out this fall. I leave my cell number so they can get to me if they have a PC emergency.

Rae's tip of the day:You're likely to encounter people in Chicago asking for money. I know I did the last time I went to NC. I always hesitate to give cash, since I don't know how it will be used. I do like to help people, though. Someone gave me a great idea. I take fast food gift certificates with me. There are fast food places everywhere downtown. I can give, knowing it can only be used for food. Plus, I can determine a specific amount before I leave for Chicago. I can give a few of dollars' worth to each one. Once I'm out of certificates, I've given the amount I set aside for those donations.

Hey Morfia can't wait to see you!!!!

Rae's tip of the day: ravel can cause, um, digestive issues. While at NC, it would be easy to eat too little fiber and drink too little water. Plan ahead. Take some high-fiber snacks with you. Dried fruit, snack bars, and the like are portable and tasty. Make a conscious effort to drink lots of water. If you're picky about your water, take some of your favorite with you. Otherwise, just take along a refillable sport bottle. There are conveniently placed pitchers of water at each workshop. You'll feel better if you’re well hydrated.

**Rae thanks for all your great tips, I finally made a file so I don't have to copy yours. Thanks again:)**

Just for Wed? Are you staying at a conference hotel the rest of the time? If you're going with a group; it's just as good a deal to split the conference hotel room with 3 other people. Usually ends up being about $170 each person for 3 nights.

Thanks to everyone for their support. Looking forward to meeting all of you and my first NC experience. In my previous job, I was very fortunate to be invited to attend several corporate events VERY similiar to what NC seems to be for PC, including the HO tour. Always a great time and very inspiring. Just look for me to be attached to Cheryl's side since she seems to already know so many of you. Cheryl - don't say I didn't warn you... Christy - I just wanted to let you know that I'm very jealous of that airfare price, even if you think its high. I keep looking and can't find anything under 239 plus so many taxes and fees. For the price you're quoted, I'd be in heaven as the one thing I do not look forward to is riding in a car for 10hours, twice. Hopefully you will get your better price! Good luck.

Thanks for the invite Cheryl - when are you leaving going out & coming back? Be forewarned, whomever I ride with, I may need to play musical chairs with the front seat/back seat as my stomach is not a good back seat rider. Anyone with kids who get car sick - if you have suggestions I'd love to hear them! I can ride the biggest roller coaster just fine, but the back seat of a car is not a 'good ride'. :yuck:

I envy you people that live in Illinois! Any of those states around Illinois would be wonderful!! you could either drive or get a low cost airline ticket if you live in a close by state! I paid a little over $400.00! But last year it was around $600.00! If I would have purchased it a little sooner I would have saved money... but I wasnt able to until when I did!
Conference is a big chunk of money for some of us that fly in from far away, or from cities that are not as large as your main citites... like Seattle or LosAngeles! By the time I figure in childcare, and all that goes with this trip, i easily spend $1000.00 every year! Except when i earn free conference and this year I did not!:(

I live in Spokane... and I'm flying out of Spokane... where are you at? My director is in Utah! I use to be part of a large cluster here, but then my recruiter/director quit... I took on her team as hospitality while I was a director, but ended going thru health and personal family issues and gave up my directorship... LOL I won't be here Fri-Sun to get anything done, Monday is my little one's 3rd b-day,then Tuesday I would like to relax before I get on that bus Wed. morning. I've got a few things left to wash/pack, and a few more things to find that I would like to take.

I'll be flying out of SF this time, but San Jose is a great place to fly out of. Are you flying into Midway and at what time?

I'm so not ready!! Moved into a new house this past week... finished completely moving in this past weekend... now we are trying to unpack at this house and clean the other house!! We lived there for almost 15 years! I can't believe how much crap we have!! LOL!! I don't even know where 1/2 my stuff is at!! this is the first conference that I'm not as excited about because I've been so stressed:cry:.... I'm scared when I get there, I might just pass out and miss the whole conference!! lol!;) But I need this conference.... I need to find my passion again, and I need to let it help me unwind! I can relate sorta we didn't move but my 10 yr class reunion is 3 days before we leave and I got parties and vendor booth and the 4th of july celebration which is a 3 day event in our town for the "oldest rodeo in ID" it is so draining afterwards. Then I got the kids starting in summer school and this week my son and hubby are gone for boyscout camp and then with me being the secetary for the Friends of NRA we have a booth over the 4th of july celebration as well so I am thinking my conference is a vacation away from vacation.... I am so excited but have so much to do before I leave I am just blah.... I am sure when will know who we are when we are walking around like zombies. lol

I worked the street fair in town all weekend (and earned a little cash for the trip, too! ;))

Tomorrow morning, I leave here at 7am to return at about 6pm... Tuesday morning I leave at 7am to return, hopefully earlier, after interviewing to hire new managers (why must people quit just a week before I leave town? Couldn't they wait til I return? lol)... I'll need to leave home by 5am Wednesday morning so I can be at work early and not take as much time off... my flight leaves at 5:30pm Wed....

Not really sure when I'll find time to pack.... or do the laundry that will be necessary in order to get the packing done.....

Ah well... I'll get it done... I always do.... lol

I thought of that too but I figured I'd pack what I need in my larger suitcase so I'll have spare room for the things I bring home. Though I have a tendency to over pack so I may have to pack in my smaller suitcase first then move it to larger last minutes so I won't think I have sooo much extra room I need to discipline myself not to bring 8 pairs of shoes. I think I'm going to pack my sneakers and wear slip on sandals so I don't have to deal with taking shoes and socks off at airport!

I will be measuring my luggage because we bought a new set after Thanksgiving at JCPenney's and there were 5 pieces and I want to take one on the plane for the extra stuff I will be coming back home with. I started packing tonight and decided I needed to bring larger suitcase. It's hardly enough room. I don't think I'll have room to bring much home! I do overpack but I feel like I'm not this time. I picked out 3 outfits for the days added a 4th as a backup. Put in one pair of jeans and one pair of capri's for after hours. Added two tshirts for sleeping and comfy pants. And a sweatshirt and a couple of extra tops. Once I put my sneakers, 2 pairs of sandals and whatever shoes I end up bringing for ED dinner I'm full. I still need to buy new outfit for ed dinner. I tried putting on dress I'd planned on bringing yesterday and I guess I've gained since I wore that last:cry: Oh well I needed an excuse to buy a new outfit for a bridal shower coming up so there you go. I also need a new bra or two. I don't like to carry on a lot so I was just going to use my HWC tote for the essentials and I probably still will I can always fedex my purchases home.

I've got all of mine packed as well. But keeping it simple. Since I have a broken foot picking out shoes got easy I have one pair that I am able to wear with my boot cast. Platform Rainbow Flip Flop~~It works! My sneakers don't have enough of a platform. I'm just taking a total of 5 outfits (all are capri's), t-shirt/shorts to sleep in and underclothes. Oh and coffee creamer! LOL. My ED dinner is nothing major and everyone said they didn't dress up last year or the years past.

I have to admit, I kind of feel like the kid who had to watch the other kids playing at the birthday party- but I'm on the outside! :D But it will pass- since I'm in wave 3. (Glad to know that they change the waves around from year to year- I was wondering about that.)

You guys have fun!

LOL - Right there with you Bobbi!

HAVE FUN at conference, all of you Wave Oners!

I remember reading last year, though, that alot of things Wave 1 and Wave 2 had to pay for last year, Wave 3 got for free (items from Merrill, etc), so there could be a benefit to being Wave 3.

I'm Wave 2 this year, so will have to wait until you Wave 3ers return to find out if it happened again this time.

I had a great time! I can't wait till NC next year!

This was my first and I must say I wish I would have gone last year. So much information. As I told my DH they give you a little pat on the back and a kick in the butt! Which is what I needed!

I'd have to agree with you Leigh. I was a first timer and day 1 was my 30th day with PC. I had higher expectations for what I would learn from the workshops but overall, a time well spent. I had 2 super good workshops but the one was so much information that you couldn't write it down fast enough. A 3rd workshop was average but didnt do well on time and she ran out of time without covering more of her presentation and the 4th (not in order) was horrible! Total waste of my time and I think everyone elses. So I'd say I was 50% on the workshops. I think in the future I will channel my energy to going for the fun/sites/scenes/interaction with others PC'ers and not put as much weight on the learning part of workshops.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LET HO KNOW who the speakers were---I have taught many-classes for PC and not this year--I believe there were a bunch of 1st time-speakers- as well as a few-well seasoned ones too--- I too had a couple of doozies this year- I think the BIGGEST problem was time they used to be 1 and a half hour classes-so there was time to get notes as well as ask ?s-- Whatever class you had as a doozie-get a cd from paperwork supply ===what we learned in the Jack Canfield Director class was listen to it 6 x and take notes- you will get so much more out of anything by using the 6 x rule---- glad you went to conference!! Hope to see you next year!!
