My best friend and next door neighbor (and host 2 nights ago) needs to find a job fast. Her husband came home from a business trip the night of her party and that's when we found out he lost his job. She isn't interested in PC. She has secretary skills and is good at proofreading/editing. I've heard that there are places that hire transcriptionists and do things via fax/email/online. Anyone know of this or anything else that she can find? She can get a job at a local store, but she's hoping to find something that could be long term, if needed, and be good pay. So this could be an interim job until she finds the right thing. Any ideas?

I wil hire her to be my secretary!! My office is SO unorganized.. & she can make my CCC ;)

I've been using http://www.indeed.com its for your area (type in your zip) and then it combines all the job classifieds in in place. (ie. newspapers, online sources, etc). Its great, and I've referred many people to use it.

(Thanks Kacey, for showing me!)

Thanks, I've been using craigslist but not everyone posts on there.

Have her try usajobs.gov, there are always lots of secretary positions available, just depends on if there are any in your area.

Hare her try area hospitals -- they don't advertise much, but a lot have websites listing job opportunities -- they will always be with us (hospitals) so are pretty secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my close friend needs a job?

If your close friend is looking for a job, the first step is to have an open conversation with them about their skills, interests, and the type of job they are seeking. Offer to help them update their resume and cover letter, and discuss potential job leads or networking opportunities that could be beneficial.

How can I help my friend with their job search?

You can assist your friend by sharing job openings that you come across, connecting them with people in your network who might be hiring, or even conducting mock interviews to help them prepare. Encouragement and support during their job search can also make a significant difference.

Should I refer my friend to my employer?

If you believe your friend is a good fit for a position at your workplace, it can be beneficial to refer them. However, ensure that you are comfortable with this decision and that your friend meets the qualifications for the role. Be honest with your friend about the company culture and expectations.

What if my friend is not qualified for the jobs they are applying for?

If your friend is applying for jobs they are not qualified for, gently encourage them to consider positions that align better with their skills and experience. Offer to help them identify transferable skills or suggest additional training or courses that could enhance their qualifications.

How can I support my friend emotionally during their job search?

Job searching can be stressful and disheartening. Be there for your friend by listening to their concerns, celebrating their small victories, and reminding them of their strengths. Encourage them to take breaks and engage in activities they enjoy to help manage stress.
