I belong to a dinner club, and this month's theme is "Cuisine from the Sea" - and I get to bring dessert! We didn't think that a shrimp cheesecake :yuck: would work... so, any ideas? I thought of:
Turtle Fudge Skillet Cake
Fish Cakes (cakes shaped like fishies...)

any other thoughts?

Turtle Fudge Skillet Cake is a great idea. Any dessert with "turtle" in the name is good. What about sea foam!

I would make a cake and decorate it with fish shaped candies. My son had some that were kind of like sweet tarts that were shaped like fish. There are also the Swedish fish that are gummy type. Not sure if a cake decorating place would have fish sprinkles, but if you wanted to do sprinkles instead of candies I am sure you could find something with seashells or something Sea related. Perhaps add a touch of PC and make it in the fluted pan or something else PC. Or you could make a batter bowl cake and decorate it like a fish bowl.

How about one of the Trifle recipes but substitute "sponge" cake (angel food) cake for the pound cake :)

Dessert "sushi" - I've seen these in magazines, etc. They're mock sushi rolls made with fruit leather (fruit roll-ups), sweetened rice and fruit pieces.

the y make chocolate sea shells and williams sonoma has a cake pan like a sand castle

Thanks for all of your great ideas guys - I'll keep my eyes out for special sprinkles - off to a cake decorating class tonight, so perhaps they can help too. Might check out their cake pans. Have a great day! :balloon:

Frequently Asked Questions

What dessert pairs well with a seafood-themed dinner?

A light and refreshing dessert, such as a lemon sorbet or a fruit tart, pairs beautifully with a seafood-themed dinner. The citrus flavors complement the seafood while providing a palate-cleansing finish.

Can I serve chocolate dessert after seafood?

While chocolate desserts can be rich, a dark chocolate mousse or a chocolate lava cake can work if balanced with lighter elements, like a raspberry coulis or whipped cream. However, it's generally better to stick with lighter flavors for a seafood meal.

Are there any no-bake dessert options for a seafood dinner?

Yes! No-bake desserts like a key lime pie or a chilled fruit salad can be excellent choices. They are easy to prepare ahead of time and offer a refreshing end to your meal.

How can I incorporate seafood flavors into dessert?

Incorporating seafood flavors into dessert can be tricky, but you can use ingredients like sea salt or a hint of seaweed in caramel or chocolate desserts. A salted caramel tart can bring a unique twist while still being dessert-like.

What are some seasonal dessert ideas for a seafood-themed dinner?

Seasonal fruits like berries or stone fruits can be used in desserts such as pavlova or fruit crisps. These desserts highlight the freshness of the season and complement the lightness of seafood dishes.
