Okay, so I want to know the scoop on these two items. :) I don't have either. I have the rectangular baker, large bar pan, and then round stones and rectangular stones. So, I keep seeing recipes where it says to use the DDB, do I really need to add this to my collection right away, or can I use something else as a sub? How do the dimensions comare with the rectangular baker? The DCB I keep seeing that it's used for the 30 min. chicken. Anything else? My wish list keeps growing...but I have to prioritize things. Which is a must have?

I own and love both - but the one I think is a must have for Show purposes is the DCB.

I have the DCB but do not have the DDB. I use it some but not often and will for the first time at my show on the 28th.

I have both and use the DCB more. My DDB was one of the first stones I bought many moons ago. My DCB just has more uses for me.....although I am going to have to replace it! It has a hairline crack down one side that I just noticed! Time to dig around and figure when I bought it!!

I have both. Have had the DCB since it came out. Love it. Use A LOT. It ranks with my lg bar pan as my favrourite stones.I just got the DDB (last week. So excited) and haven't used it. Yet. But I know I will, b/c like you, I saw so many recipes that called for it.

Does anyone know if in a pinch I can use my rectangular baker instead of the DDB? Or are the measurements off too much?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main differences between the DDB and the Rectangular Baker?

The DDB (Deep Dish Baker) is designed for deeper dishes, making it ideal for casseroles, lasagnas, and other layered recipes. In contrast, the Rectangular Baker is shallower and better suited for baking items like brownies, cakes, and roasted vegetables. The choice between the two often depends on the type of dish you plan to prepare.

Which one is more versatile for everyday cooking?

The Rectangular Baker is generally considered more versatile for everyday cooking due to its shallower design, which can accommodate a wider variety of recipes, from baking to roasting. However, the DDB excels in specific scenarios where depth is required, such as for hearty casseroles.

Are there any specific recipes that work better in one than the other?

Yes, the DDB is particularly effective for recipes that require a deeper baking dish, such as lasagna or deep-dish pizza. On the other hand, the Rectangular Baker is perfect for recipes like brownies, sheet cakes, or roasted vegetables, where a shallower dish allows for even cooking and browning.

How do the materials and construction of each affect cooking performance?

Both the DDB and Rectangular Baker are made from high-quality stoneware, which provides excellent heat retention and even cooking. However, the thickness and design may influence cooking times. The DDB's depth can lead to longer cooking times for dense dishes, while the Rectangular Baker allows for quicker cooking due to its shallower profile.

Which baker is better for serving directly at the table?

Both bakers can be used for serving directly at the table, but the Rectangular Baker is often preferred for its more traditional serving shape and ease of slicing portions. The DDB, while also attractive, may be less convenient for serving individual portions due to its depth.
