Hi guys,

Im thinking of making a barbie cake for my daughters birthday. Do you think it would turn out better in the oven with the stoneware baking bowl, or the classic batter bowl?

Classic Batter bowl! There is a cake/baking thread somewhere on here from about a month ago- let me see if I can find it...

The Stoneware baking bowl isn't really for cake. And although it might work, it would be HUGE!! Use the Classic Batter Bowl.

How long did you all bake the cake for? I'd hate for it not to be ready in the middle...

I have seent hat info somewhere and I need to know too. I do remember that you bake at a lower temp and for a longer time.

Also, on the barbie cake - are you using a real barbie or the pick (no legs)? If you are using a real barbie, I've heard that her legs are too long and you need to bake an 8" cake to set the batter bowl cake on so she won't be out of proportion and so you don't have to break her legs.

Yes, definately get the barbie torso on the stick....when I made one a couple years ago I forgot to get one, so I used one of my girls' barbies. Worked okay, but the cake cracked a bit due to the big legs, & I had to use extra frosting to make more dress since the cake hit barbie just below "her business". (if you know what I mean, LOL!)
I can't remember the amount of time....anyone have their 'celebrate' cookbook handy?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between baking a Barbie cake in the oven versus using a bowl?

Baking a Barbie cake in the oven typically involves using a cake pan to create a structured cake that can support the Barbie doll. This method allows for even baking and a more traditional cake texture. On the other hand, using a bowl can create a more rounded, dome-shaped cake, which can also be effective but may require additional support to keep the doll upright.

What type of cake batter is best for a Barbie cake?

A dense cake batter, such as a pound cake or a butter cake, is ideal for a Barbie cake. These types of cakes hold their shape well and provide the necessary support for the doll. Avoid using very light or airy batters, as they may not hold up as well when the doll is inserted.

How long should I bake a Barbie cake in the oven?

The baking time for a Barbie cake can vary depending on the size of the cake and the type of batter used. Generally, a Barbie cake baked in a standard oven should be baked for 25 to 35 minutes at 350°F (175°C). It’s important to check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean when the cake is ready.

Can I use a microwave to bake a Barbie cake?

While it is possible to use a microwave to bake a Barbie cake, the results may not be as satisfactory as baking in a conventional oven. Microwaved cakes can become rubbery or unevenly cooked. If you choose to use a microwave, opt for a microwave-safe bowl and reduce the cooking time, checking frequently to avoid overcooking.

What decorations work best for a Barbie cake?

When decorating a Barbie cake, fondant and buttercream are popular choices. Fondant can create a smooth finish and can be molded into various shapes, while buttercream allows for more texture and color. Edible glitter, sprinkles, and themed cake toppers can also enhance the cake's appearance, making it vibrant and appealing for a Barbie-themed celebration.
