Thanks!

I'm tired already and have to leave my house at 4:45 a.m. but I'm exciting and hoping it will be worth the time.

Just also dreading what I'll come back to at work. I just got done entering about 15 orders and needed a quick minute to recover before I do my next batch...got through my e-mails but not to regular tasks yet!

Oh well, back to the chaos...

It will be here before we know it!

BTW, don't forget to bring lots of $1 bills with you for tipping servers & cab drivers. Also, you might consider tipping housekeeping at your hotel. A dollar or two each day left in an envelope marked "Housekeeping" works well. That way you'll be sure to reward everyone, even if you have different staff each day. :)

Only 61 days!

You'll be getting lots of advice about packing light, and that's the best thing to do. However, I have one little extra that can really help. If you're sharing a room, one of you should bring along an outlet strip. You'll probably each have a cell phone charger. I've spent waaay too much time in hotel rooms crawling under the desk to plug in my charger or unplug it in the morning. Plus, if you have only one bathroom and more than one of you needs to use a curling or flat iron at the same time, you can easily use that outlet strip near the room mirror.

PamperedDor
05-10-2008, 07:44 AM
Oh great tip Rae - ( I meant the one on outlet strip - not singles!! LOL)

I also pack a little extra duffle bag, but not sure if we are allowed 2 pieces this year - and I know most airlines now have weight restrictions - so read the small print!

Only 60 days!

In years past, I've encountered a few panhandlers while touring the Chicago streets. Part of me always wants to help. Part of me is always afraid that I'll just be supporting a drug or alcohol habit. However, somewhere I came across a suggestion to carry fast food gift certificates to give.

Most fast food places still have the paper gift certificates available; you just have to ask. And, if you don't use them while at NC, you can always use them on the way home.

Di_Can_Cook
05-14-2008, 12:36 PM
Weight restrictions on the baggage or the passengers?

That, to be honest, was the reason I was hesitant to fly Southwest ... but that is the airline my cluster chose. Even if I lose 50 or 75 pounds, I will not be "skinny" by any stretch ... friends of mine who are also plus sized have gone Southwest many times and have not had a problem ... and my clustermates would probably rise up in protest if there was one ...

Another tip: Travel can really throw your good, healthy intentions for a loop. Take along some good, healthy snacks. Nuts, dried fruit, and such can help fill a rumbly tummy and make those triple-size muffins look much less appealing. They're also easy to take along in little snack-size zippered bags. Along with regular water consumption (bring your own or use a refillable water bottle) you'll be able tol save money and your waistilne.

PamperedDor
05-14-2008, 08:20 PM
LOL- I meant the airline has restrictions on baggage weight - not ours!!! You guys crack me up!!!

I agree with Rae - I always bring trail mix with me and my own water bottle - I fill it up all the time to stay hydrated and between that and all the walking - I count it as exercise!!!

Don't forget to take along address labels. These will save you time and effort filling out info on forms. Also, you'll want to take business cards along. You might even want to take a few self-addressed, stamped envelopes. That will make it easier to get people to send you info.

Take along the names and addresses of the hosts for your shows in the few weeks after you get back from NC. Your first day there, pick up postcards. Send one to each of your upcoming hosts telling them you're excited about learning how to make their show even better. It's a great way to connect with your host.

BTW, you might also want to bring along their phone numbers so you can do a bit of host coaching during breaks.

With only 54 days to go , now's the time to start planning your wardrobe.

It will be mid-July in Chicago, so plan for hot, humid days and possibly chilly nights. Make sure that you try everything on, the complete outfit with shoes and any special foundational garments (need a new strapless bra?), at least a week or two before you leave.

Your first consideration needs to be comfort. You'll be doing a lot of walking and a lot of sitting. Is any piece too snug? Trust me, you'll be miserable by the end of the first session if you're wearing something too tight. Will every pair of shoes be be comfy after miles of walking and climbing stairs? (Oh, yeah, if you're planning to wear a skirt, make sure you can climb stairs in it. Narrow skirts are cute, but some make climbing nearly impossible.)

Now, check everything over carefully. You don't want to get to Chicago and realize that there's a stain, rip, or other problem with one of your clothing pieces. A week or two should give you enough time to make any repairs, have things laundered or dry cleaned, replace a piece or two, or even choose a whole new outfit.

It won't take nearly as much time as it sounds, and you'll be glad you planned ahead.

See you in 54 days!

Only 53 days!

While you're filling your June and July calendars, don't forget to block out a bit of personal time. If you can, set aside a day or two before NC to spend some quality time with your family or just getting yourself mentally prepared. Take a day or two after NC to go over your notes, absorb the info, make plans to implement any new ideas, and spend some private time with family.

A bit of extra time spent with your family before and after your absence might make them more likely to gracefully accept your absence in the future. And, a bit of down time can help you make the most of your NC experience.

You think that is bad? This year is my year to recertify in lifeguarding...so I have to do that in about 1 week.

Then, I have to get in a pool with about 20-30 kids less than half my age and help my DH train them as lifeguards...after 2 kids, my stomach isn't as flat as it used be and I'm not in as good as shape!!!! :blushing:

I'm still signed up for the orientation at 9 a.m. since I'm taking the HO tour on Saturday ... so far, nobody has talked me out of it, but we'll see what happens.

Conference itiniary only covers so much ... there's also the issue that my cluster is "in transition." Four of us are going without our (now) ex director. Of those 4, one is going with her husband, one is planning on staying in her room with her baby at night (since her parents will be watching her during the day) and the other will probably want to be with me 24/7. Add in to the mix that we are now merged with a larger cluster ... and I am the only one (so far) who has even met most of the larger group as far as I know. So there will be a lot of "cluster politics" to navigate. Add into the mix that I want to see you guys ... AND I want to meet up with some friends who are in the Greater Chicago area ... AND I'm not staying in an "official" conference hotel ... it looks like my social calendar will be jam-packed!

I also don't want to take a bus to the Palamer for the orientation, only to take another one BACK to the Sheraton to meet cluster-mates for lunch ... that sort of thing!

Instead of impressed, you should be afraid. Very afraid.

Yes, The Furry Guy will be checking my oil and other fluids. (Hmm, if I remember correctly, that information led to a lot of suggestive comments last year. :o )

Seriously, if you're driving any distance, be sure to do a quick tune-up on your vehicle. Check the fluids, tire pressure, and anything else that needs routine maintenance. It will save you on fuel (which is imperative right now :yuck:), and make it much less likely that you'll have car trouble.

Once again, I'm suggesting another thing to add to your suitcase--hangers. I know. I know. You're supposed to pack light. That's wonderful advice. Ask yourself this, though. You're sharing a room with how many other people? You're each bringing clothes for about 3 days. The average hotel room has, what, 4 hangers?

Make things simple for yourself. Bring one good hanger for each outfit you're bringing with you. Once you arrive at the hotel, Place one complete outfit on each hanger.* Ta da! Now it will be really easy to grab everything you need for the day as you're getting ready each morning.

*You don't have to, but you can slip your underthings over the top of the hanger as well. This will keep you from having to rummage through your luggage each morning to find the right undies, bra, socks/hose, etc, for what you're wearing that day. If you're an early riser like me, your roommates will thank you for thinking ahead and making much less noise while they're catching a few more winks.

Okay, so I know I mentioned before about buying postcards while in Chicago for your upcoming hosts. I was just going through my NC folder and found the extras I bought last year.

I forgot that I had decided to think ahead. Before I leave for NC, I'll write, address, and stamp those postcards. Once I get to the hotel, I'll slip them in the mail. Easy. Before I leave Chicago, I'll buy postcards for next time.

Gee, I feel so organized and prepared. :)

If you haven't started a packing list, start it soon. It's probably best to make sure it's portable so you can jot things down as you think of them. Don't over-pack, though. How to strike a balance? Why not talk with your roommates? You can probably share some things like . . .

Outlet Strip (for charging all those cell phones)

Di_Can_Cook

It's true that the hotels have hair dryers. I just don't trust them. I've encountered a few that were so weak I'd be better off having someone stand behind me and blow on my hair. As a matter of fact, if it were at NC and I had a few roommates, they would have done a much better job than the appliance provided by the hotel.

I always take my own. I'm married to an Eagle Scout. I'm pretty certain he slipped that whole "be prepared" thing into the wedding vows. :)

No, I'm not talking about sex. I'm talking about snoring. It can be really uncomfortable to tell someone you barely know that their buzzsaw impression that first night kept you up. Here's what I tell new roommates:

I sometimes snore. I also sometimes talk in my sleep. If I'm disturbing your sleep, don't be shy. Nudge me. Shake me. Wake me. Smother me with a pillow. Do whatever you need to do. I won't be offended. Heck, I probably won't even remember.

Pack NEW ear plugs for everyone!! I think I have turned from a "sometimes snorer" to an "all the time snorer". :yuck: :yuck: So this is a way to help others.

I haven't read this entire thread but I like to pack a book and a mini light for reading under the covers in case I wake up in the night and can't get back to sleep. Reading puts me to sleep very easily. Nothing annoys me more than waking up in the middle of the night with NOTHING to do but think of how tired I am going to be the next day without enough sleep.:indif: And the last thing I want to do is to disturb someone else's sleep.

Breath mints (to offer to me when I need one)
TMI Sign (for when I start to overshare)
One really good chocolate (just because it's a necessity of life)

Only 40 days, baby!

Chefann shared this last year. Since today is Saturday, I figure it's a good time to share a slightly longer post.

8 Mistakes that Can Spoil Any Trip

Winging it. Know where you're going to stay for at least the first night, especially after a long flight. (NC specific: Of course you have a reservation. Make sure you have that confirmation information with you, especially if it wasn't you who booked the room.)

Packing too much. Limit yourself to one suitcase and one carry-on. Put a change of clothes and your daily medication in the carry-on in case your luggage gets lost. (Not flying? Packing light is still important. You're just in less danger of losing your luggage.)

Forgetting essential items. Make a list of things you frequently forget, and put it in your empty suitcase.

Trying to do too much. Limit the number of activities you plan into each day. Schedule free days for long trips. (NC specific: I know there are lots of fun things to do after the evening sessions. Just don't try to do everything!)

Trying to get too much work done at the last minute. Spread things out. you'll never have enough time to finish everything the day before you leave.

Calling the office too much. This can be a sign of insecurity or trying too hard to control everything. Your boss and co-workers know how to reach you in an emergency, right?

Misplacing essential items. Keep boarding passes, identification, passports, trip itineraries, and other documents in one small, easy-to-get-to pouch or bag. Put a bright sticker or ribbon on your luggage to make it stand out.

Leaving town without making arrangements to have the mail and newspaper picked up.This is a sure sign to would-be thieves that your house is empty.

Traveling by plane? Photograph your luggage and its contents just before you leave. If your luggage is lost, you'll have a record for the airline. And, just being prepared may ward off this type of bad luck. You know, like carrying an umbrella almost guarantees it won't rain. :p

Once you get to your hotel room, I know you'll be excited to talk with everyone and get started on the NC fun. Your stay will go much smoother, though, if you take just a few minutes to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Where are the light switches, and which lights do they control? Where are the AC controls, and how do they work? Where is the emergency exit in relation to your room?

Oh, yeah, and from personal experience, make sure the room's clock radio isn't set to full volume on a mariachi station unless that's really how the people in your room prefer to be awakened. :p

While you're in Chicago, carry the address of your hotel with you. after all, there is more than one Sheraton or Hilton. And, while PC is very important, not every cab driver will know where PC consultants are staying.

Anne, earplugs are a great idea! I may make a "Rae's Roommate Survival Kit" for those sharing my room. I could include:

Breath mints (to offer to me when I need one)
TMI Sign (for when I start to overshare)
One really good chocolate (just because it's a necessity of life)
Earplugs (for when I snore, though you may want to leave them out in case I'm talking in my sleep--I'm frequently really entertaining when I'm unconscious!)

And a tape recorder to share Rae's conversations with her Chef Success family and The Furry Guy.
"Oust" or some other bathroom spray (no explaination needed)

Your tips are not only hilarious but useful too. I may have to copy and paste these posts to my newbees!!! It will be volume II Conference Binder!

You guys think I'm kidding?

The first year I was at NC one of my roommates set our clock radio. None of us thought to check the volume or station. Lark that I am, I was already up, but you should have seen those other three women when the radio came on full blast with mariachi music!

As for the talking in my sleep, if you believe The Furry Guy, I was always the entertainment when my little family went camping. I'd fall asleep, and the guys would listen to my brain download. I once told them wombats make good pets.*

*BTW, I'm fairly sure this isn't true.

Speaking as an ex-cop, you might want to have a copy the account numbers of all of your credit and debit cards that you will be bringing with you and leave it at home where someone can find it fast in case a purse comes up missing.
Also, don't walk around Chicago wearing your Conference name tag that they are going to give you.

It's June 5, and there are only 36 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Peanuts? Granola bars? What snack helps keep you going? You might want to bring some along. With everything going on at NC, a healthy snack to boost your energy mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon may be just what you need to stay alert and get the most out of those great workshops. A healthy snack may also keep you from choosing the quick over the healthy because you're too hungry to wait.

A refillable water bottle would be a good thing to bring along, too. There are pitchers of water in the workshop rooms, so you'll be able to fill it up regularly.

Yes, we can but we own a house there and we rent it out the rest of the season. Whether you're traveling by plane, bus, or train, be sure to have your identification handy. Depending on your mode of travel, you may need to show that ID several times. You may also need more than one form of ID.

WOW...I had better start shopping...I need clothes!!!

Not sure if you had mentioned this, Rae, but I am going to invest in some sort of a rolling carrying jobby  So I can roll my lap top AND the zillion mini catalogs and post cards I will buy at conference. Other wise, my knuckles will drag on the ground like a gorilla and my arms will be tired and I will get cranky (crankier, that is!! )

Every year, I see people with these when my arms are about to fall off and I can't decide if I want to cry or go steal their carrier (I don't want what is in it, I just want to carry my stuff with less pain!!)

Another tip....
Receipts...plane tickets, meals on the road, pruchases with Merrill or PC, taxi rides, etc. will pile up so fast. Before you know it, you will have this pile of paper that you will chuck in your receipt box. Then come tax time you are burnt out from Christmas and can't remember what the heck was for what!

I take brown clasp envelopes about 6 x 8 and put a date on one for each day I will be gone. I carry the current day with me and when the day is done, it gets clasped and put in my suitcase. Then I put the next day's envelope in my bag or purse. On the outside I may put notes on it like...split taxi fare, or tips, etc. just so I know what to claim and/or where my money or credit was used. The first time I did this, I had one envelope for the entire trip and it got too bulky so breaking in down into separate days really helped me! Hope it helps you too!

Label each piece of your luggage, both inside and out, with your name and phone number. Don't include your address. If an address is required by your transportation, try not to use your home address. Use your office, local post office, etc., if possible. Flying? Don't forget to remove old claim checks to avoid confusion. After all, you may want to return to your last vacation spot, but do you really want your luggage to return before you do? :p

Even if you're driving, labels can be important. At some point at NC your luggage may be next to nearly identical bags belonging to someone else. It's an interesting way to update your wardrobe, but I'm pretty sure Bobby and I don't wear the same size or style. ;)

My dad was a boy scout leader and told me to roll my clothes to take less room. I won't do this with my clean stuff, but the dirties ALWAYS get rolled up and put in a plastic bag when we go on vacation. Then they don't get mingled with the clean stuff left in your suitcase when you put the bag in.

For those who have asked, I'm up at 4:10 every morning when I'm working a temp job. It allows me to:

Exercise (30 minutes aerobic + either yoga or strength training with weights)

Spend time in prayer and meditation

Take a bath (I'm not a shower girl)

Make breakfast for myself and The Furry Guy (I have time to eat mine in a leisurely manner. The Furry Guy heats his up when he awakens later, since he works second shift)

Make a quick email check and sometimes a Chef Success countdown post

I do all that before leaving the house at approximately 7. I get to move at a leisurely pace. I'm a morning person, but I hate to be rushed.

Thanks for asking, Kristi. He's great! He's also part of the reason I haven't been on here for a couple of days. I drove him to Indianapolis to catch the Greyhound back to Dallas on Monday evening, which meant I didn't get home until midnight. Needless to say, I was exhausted when I got home from work on Tuesday evening (even though I slept in a bit that morning). I went to bed early that night.

He's currently safely back on campus in Dallas. He received a couple of interesting offers while here in Indiana. He's mulling them over, praying about them, and discussing them with his mentors. One was for a job, the other was a ministry opportunity. He graduates this December. If he accepts the offers, he'll return to Indiana for the next few years. If not, he'll stay in Dallas for a while. I'd love to have his wonderful hugs only 30-45 minutes away, but I mostly want him where God wants him.

While you're checking all of your clothing to make sure it's clean and in good repair, why not see if you can eliminate an item or two? If you're using any type of public transportation to get to NC, be sure to check the carry-on rules. They change, so they may not be the same as the last time you traveled. Contact the company you're using for your travel, and ask about their rules. You can always contact the Transportation Security Administration (www.tsa.gov), but individual lines often have additional restrictions. You'd hate to have to leave something important behind.

Some consultants (especially moms) like to leave a care package for their families. Now, The Furry Guy is used to being on his own, so a pan of mac & cheese and a few phone calls to touch base while I'm gone will be just fine for him. However, if you have young children at home (or a spouse who's not used to being on his or her own), a few "special-occasion only" treats could help them deal with your absence and may make them more willing to let you go next time. Oh, yeah, and don't forget to add a quick love note for each of your loved ones.

If you don't mind carrying a little more, add: sweater, wallet (for vendor area, although it's better to look and then buy later in conference after you've thought about your purchases a bit), business cards (to hand out to other consultants), camera, lip balm, mints or gum, snack and pain relievers (never know when a headache is going to start).

You forgot camera to take picks of all your wonderful cheffer buddies and then post them next to your computer so you can see them when you loggon. Now that I actually wrote that out, it seems a little more creepy than I expected. Ha

What Ann said...yup that's about the barest of essentials. And be prepared for the bag to get very heavy by the end of conference...don't know why, but I alway end up with an extra water bottle, an apple or something by the last day, which makes it heavy.

That's right. You don't want too much stuff to weigh you down. I take my "bare essentials" in a plastic bag (think Wal-Mart or grocery store). That way I can toss it when I switch everything to my NC tote.

Today is June 20. There are only 20 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Travel can cause, um, digestive issues. :o While at NC, it would be easy to eat too little fiber and drink too little water. Plan ahead. Take some high-fiber snacks with you. Dried fruit, snack bars, and the like are portable and tasty. Make a conscious effort to drink lots of water. Take a refillable water bottle. There are water pitchers in each of the workshops, and you can fill up there. If you're picky about your water, take some of your favorite with you. You'll feel better.

I recommend Lara Bars!

Taste great - and full of healthy fruit, protein, and that all-important fiber! (and no sugar other than the fruit.) YUMMY!

Today is June 21. There are only 19 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Do your homework before you head out for NC. Take a few minutes to sit down and think about what you want to get out of NC.

What are you hoping to learn?
What questions do you want to ask?

Next, think about what tips you have to share.

Product Tip?
Booking?
Host Coaching?
Recruiting?

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, take the time to really think about these things. NC will be a great experience whether you've done your homework or not. However, you're more likely to reach your goal if you've given it some thought beforehand.

Chef Bobby
06-21-2008, 04:27 PM
Bring a bundle of your business cards to share with other consultants that you will meet.
This year when someone hands me their buisiness card, I am going to write on the back of it where and when I met them. I have a hand full of cards from last year and don't have a clue when we met.

Today is June 22. There are only 18 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Traveling by plane? Make sure you pack anything you can't live without for a few days or easily replace (like medications) in your carry-on bag. You'll be in Chicago, so clothes, cosmetics, and toiletries will be somewhat easily available to you. Replacing prescription medications is a bit trickier.

Now, once you get to Chicago, you're likely to decide to put your keys in your luggage so you'll have one less thing to carry around with you. Make yourself a note to put them back in your carry-on bag (or purse) before you leave the hotel. It's bad enough to lose your luggage. It's even worse to also lose your way home and/or into your house.

Di_Can_Cook
06-22-2008, 05:21 PM
My cousin acctually warned me to do the opposite ... pack all your liquids in the back that you check. She said it is a pain to put them in a ziplock ... that it holds you up at security, and this is why a cousin of ours missed her plane this week.

(Of course, said cousin told us she was held up by weather ...)

raebates
06-22-2008, 05:51 PM
Medications that are liquid are exempt from the rules for carry-on bags. You'll notice that I don't suggest putting your cosmetics and toiletries in your carry-on bag. Those are included in the "you can easily replace" section.

Make sure you keep track of everything. Record your mileage to and from the airport (or bus station, or director's house, or wherever), save all receipts, and keep a log of all tips to drivers, waiters, maids, etc. These are all business expenses you can claim on your taxes.

Be sure your family knows that you may not be able to call at a specific time each day. You don't want them to worry. Just remember that (1) you may not have good cell reception in some areas, (2) you may be running (literally) between events, and (3) the schedule is slightly different each day.

As you're starting to really think about what you'll be taking with you, you may want to consider purchasing an inexpensive travel toiletries kit. You can get them inexpensively from places like Wal-Mart, Target, and even The Dollar Store. Mine has a hook, so it can hang on the back of the bathroom door or on a towel rack. The convenience can be worth the cost.

If you haven't started your packing list yet, start it now. Seriously--an actual list. Make it portable, and carry it with you. You'll think of things to add at odd times, and if you have your list with you it's easy to add things. If you're like me, you'll never remember to write them down later.

I know you ladies want to look your best at NC. (I'm sure you men do, too, but this tip probably won't apply to you.) You'll be tempted to bring lots of cosmetics "just in case." Resist that urge. Think about the look you'll be creating and what you'll be wearing. Bring only those cosmetics you'll need. You'll be glad you did.

Comfort. I've said it before, as have several others, and I'll say it again. You want to make sure you're comfortable at NC. Shoes should be comfortable for walking miles and mile and for standing. Every piece of clothing you wear should be comfortable for sitting, standing, and walking. Think skin out. Seriously. Your underthings should be comfortable.

Now, I don't want to start a fight. I realize that your most comfortable clothes may be ones that won't fit the NC guidelines. Don't wear those. Within the guidelines, though, you should be able to find clothing that fits and wears well. You still have time to do a "test run" on what you're planning to wear. If you aren't comfortable, you won't be able to truly enjoy and learn from the full experience of NC. :grumpy:  :p

OK, actually the vet didn't know exactly what was wrong with him. He thought it was diabetes. So we started giving him more protein (he loves the meatballs from Ikea). He's back to his old self now. And the last 2 times DH took him in to the vet for checkup and nail trim (they have to Dremel them), they said he was fine. And they were shocked that he was still alive. Both birds get pellet food that's engineered and organic, blah blah blah. We joke that they eat better than we do.

We are driving and going through Canada so I am sending out an e-mail reminder for my team members to locate their passport or birth certificate. For those flying you want to keep that driver's license handy!

For years, I have sent mini catties to about 100 people from conference. Of course, now that I have a system, I realize that this is costing more money than making me money. I do not have time to follow up with everyone, however, my tried and true hosts, I may still do this for.

I bring stickers to put on each mini catalog advertising my website.
Pre-printed stickers with the host's address on them
Stamps (42 cents)
A package of clear or white round stickers to seal the pages and your note to put in.
Stickers with my return address and contact information.
And they are sent from Chicago to let them know I am thinking of them or to thank them for their recent party.

Last year I made this on small sheets of paper for customers:
Thought you would like a sneak peak ….
The new Fall/Winter 2007 Pampered Chef product line has just been reveled and I wanted you to be one of the first to see what will be available September 1, 2007

Be one of the first to show your friends and family our beautiful new products! Maybe you know of a group that needs to hold a fundraiser.
Perhaps there is a couple that is engaged and would enjoy a gift, bridal show or would like to sign up for our Wedding Registry.

If you or anyone you know would like to enjoy some extra income, I would love to share information about the fun opportunity that being a Pampered Chef consultant brings!
Enjoy our new product brochure!
(shop from your seat this fall...order on line from my website at ANY time!)

And this for my team members to get them excited:

Sooooo, I have to pack myself for two weeks + Chicago, 2 children for 2 weeks and 1 dog. It's a 12 hour drive from here so I'm also putting together things for the kids to do other than veg in front of movies for 12 hours.

Wish me luck!

Today is July 3. There are only 7 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Only 1 week to go! :D Yippee!

Now's the time to start checking on the weather forecast for Chicago. That may help you narrow your clothing choices, lightening your packing load.

Today is July 4. Happy Independence Day!

There are only 6 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Just a reminder: While you're at NC, you'll be on CDT. If you live in another time zone, you may want to start adjusting your body clock soon. You don't want to be miserably tired at NC.

Today is July 5. There are only 5 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Open your suitcase, and put it in an out-of-the-way but easy-to-reach place. (Mine is on the couch in our bedroom.) Now use this as a place to start gathering the things you want to take with you. Don't worry about the order you're putting them in or "packing" them at this point. You'll pack the day you leave (or maybe the night before) so you won't wrinkle your clothes. For right now it's just a place to gather the things you don't need on a daily basis so you won't forget to take them along.

Put a copy of your packing list nearby so you can check things off as you put them in.

Today is July 6. There are only 4 days left until the start of Wave 1!

We've talked about the importance of comfortable shoes. Now is a good time to check over the ones you're bringing. Clean and inspect them before packing. Polish them, if necessary. If you're like me, you'll want to look good almost as much as you'll want to be comfortable. ;)

Today is July 7. There are only 3 days until the start of Wave 1!

Take time to make definite plans with your roommates/clustermates. Who's getting up first? Where will you meet for General Sessions? Are you eating "on your own" meals together? If so, where? Make sure you have one another's cell phone #s. Doing this right away may save you worry, time, and even hurt feelings later.

Today is July 8. There are only 2 days left until the start of Wave 1!

Squeeze the air out of your bottles (shampoo, lotion, cosmetics, etc.) before you pack them. It allows the contents to expand without bursting or opening the bottles. Then, put your squished bottles into a zippered bag just in case. This is especially important if you're traveling by air, but it can help no matter how you travel.

Ah, the pleasures of being prepared in advance.

I spent the day hanging out with The Furry Guy and making a big pan of Marconi Cheese (aka macaroni and cheese in the homes of normal people) for The Furry Guy to munch on while I'm away. Everything is gathered. I'll do final placing of everything in the suitcase in the morning. I'm off soon to get my mani/pedi to further relax me and get me all Pampered for NC. :)

Well, that's also one of the advantages of having an empty nest. I don't have to make any arrangements for our son, since he's in Dallas, and The Furry Guy's fine on his own. I only made the Marconi Cheese because I wanted to leave him something yummy. While I was making the Marconi Cheese, he was doing a final check on the van.

You're right. I'm spoiled.

Hmmm, JAE and I might be the only Wave 1 cheffers still here today!

We leave tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn!
Will dawn be cracked at the early time we have to leave? I got up at 6 am yesterday and 5 am today. I'm acclimating myself to early mornings because in order to get to the train tomorrow I have to get up at 4 am. I'm hoping to be tired enough tonight to get to bed by 10 pm, no later than 11 pm. I tend to get my second wind around 10 pm and have trouble getting to sleep much earlier than midnight. Thank goodness for caffeine. I won't have any today or it may keep me up tonight. I'll wait until I arrive in Chicago so I don't have to worry about using the restroom during my travels.

I have my list going of things to pack. I have to shop for two things plus a little bit of food for my family. I have my list of phone numbers for potential future hosts. See you all there!

I'm wondering if I'll be able to sleep at all tonight - worrying about getting up so early! I plan on staying up until everything is done, taking a shower just before bed, so that all I have to do in the morning is roll out of bed, make some coffee, brush my teeth, and get dressed. I have to leave here at 4:40 am!!!

I have to go to Harvest Health, the chiropractor, and have to get a couple little gifts for Micah to open while I'm gone. I also have some host coaching I need to do for my shows next Monday & Tuesday!

Got a phone call this morning from Other Director. Previous director stepped down, and while New Director has been scant with the details (couldn't be on the conference call? Too bad, so sad ...) there is another director on our team whom I'm rooming with. Got a call from her this morning telling me I should be sure to bring business cards and snacks! LOL! my ft job is slow this week, which makes the waiting even harder! so....i've packed, i've cleaned the house, cleaned out the fridge, and will take the dogs to my friend/sitter in a little while. i also had time to polish my nails and get my eyebrows threaded, so i will look semi-decent ;-)

I've been running errands, and I had to pick up a few little treats to make goodie bags for DS for each day that I'm gone. I took him to McD's for lunch (RARE treat) so he could get a transformer happy meal toy., and to spend some time just hanging out. I'm not sure why - I've left him before - but this year I keep getting all teary-eyed about leaving him. Maybe I'm just hormonal.

I'm hoping to be able to do my nails tonight (another RARE occurance) after I finish laundry and packing. We have chiropractor appts at 5pm, and DH suggested we eat out at a new Italian restaurant in the same plaza as our Chiro....and I'm all over that! The people who own it are customers of mine, so I've been wanting to check it out anyway!
