I am having 2 Mexican Fiesta shows next month, and I wanted to try some "authenic" mexican recipes without making a mess. I went to the recipe files on the PC website, and looked at the Spanish Season's Best. There are some great ones there, and since I live in a suburb of Chicago, I can get the ingredients real easy. I am excited to try them out. Also, does anyone have instructions on making the big colorful flowers out of tissue paper, used in Mexican Fiesta decorating. I thought that would be a cheap way of adding some color to my decorating without spending alot of money. I have some mexican blankets that will work well. I am going to make a CD of murachi (sp) music to play before and after the show. Any other ideas are appreciated.

Crepe Paper Flowers - Mexican FiestaThis link will provide you with the basics. You can use different sized paper than suggested. If you make larger, add a few more pieces of paper.
You can also use multiple colors together instead of all the same. To me, they're more fiesta looking because the go with the colorful blankets, etc.

Lastly, you can do the same thing with coffee filters and markers. Draw colors on the filter. Mist with water, or quickly lay in paper plate with little amount of water. This causes the colors to bleed. After they dry well, follow the directions on this link: http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/flower1.html

We've done both with Kindergarten and First graders. Quick, easy and fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some budget-friendly decoration ideas for a Mexican fiesta?

To create a festive atmosphere without breaking the bank, consider using colorful tablecloths, papel picado (cut paper banners), and DIY centerpieces made from flowers or fruits. You can also use items you already have at home, like bright dishes or traditional Mexican pottery, to enhance the theme.

How can I create a Mexican menu on a budget?

Focus on simple, traditional dishes that use affordable ingredients. Tacos, quesadillas, and nachos are great options. You can make your own salsa and guacamole using fresh produce. Consider a potluck style where guests bring a dish to share, which can help spread the cost.

What are some inexpensive entertainment options for a fiesta?

For entertainment, consider creating a playlist of traditional Mexican music or hosting a dance-off. You can also organize games like a piñata or trivia about Mexican culture. These activities can be fun and engaging without requiring a large budget.

How can I incorporate authentic Mexican drinks without overspending?

Offer a few signature drinks like agua fresca or homemade margaritas using budget-friendly ingredients. You can also serve non-alcoholic options like horchata or lemonade. Buying ingredients in bulk can help reduce costs, and serving drinks in pitchers can create a festive feel.

What are some tips for inviting guests without spending too much?

Utilize digital invitations through social media or free online platforms to save on printing and postage costs. Keep the guest list manageable to ensure you can provide a great experience without overspending. Encourage guests to bring a friend for a more lively atmosphere without additional costs.
