I'm making a list of ingredients I need at the grocery store for the Family Style Calzone in the Celebrate cookbook. I don't have the Pantry Piza Crust so it says to substitute with a 16 oz. pkg of a hot roll mix? What exactly is this? Thanks in Advance!

I would think you could use the Pillsbury Refrig Pizza Crust. I have never made it so I am not sure.

Hot Roll Mix is a boxed mix for yeast rolls that you can get in the baking mix aisle. Pillsbury makes one.

If you don't have hot roll mix, you can create a similar dough using all-purpose flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Combine 2 cups of flour, 1 packet of yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add warm water gradually until you achieve a dough consistency, then knead and let it rise.

Can I use pre-made pizza dough instead of hot roll mix for calzones?

Yes, pre-made pizza dough is a great substitute for hot roll mix. It will give you a similar texture and flavor, making it easy to fill with your favorite ingredients for calzones.

Is there a gluten-free option for hot roll mix in calzones?

Absolutely! You can use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend along with the same yeast, sugar, and salt proportions. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the gluten-free flour package for the best results.

How do I adjust the recipe if I use homemade dough instead of hot roll mix?

If you're using homemade dough, ensure it has enough time to rise properly before assembling your calzones. The baking time may also vary slightly, so keep an eye on them while they bake until golden brown.

Can I use biscuit mix as a substitute for hot roll mix in calzones?

Yes, biscuit mix can be used as a substitute for hot roll mix. It will give your calzones a different texture, but they will still be delicious. Just follow the instructions on the biscuit mix package for the right proportions of liquid to achieve a dough consistency.
