We're seeing our neice next week when we go to Vegas. The day we land is her birthday - we haven't seen her in two years, so I want to get her something really special for her birthday. My girls are 15 & 17, so I'm out of the loop about what little girls like these days. Any suggestions??

Depends if you want to give her a "popular" gift (like a cool toy) or a "sentimental" gift. I like to give my nieces birthstone jewelery appropriate for their age - a sturdy necklace perhaps...

My 6 year old loves Barbies and coloring books and jewelry/hair items. Of course, she still like things like My Pretty Ponies too.

I'd ask if she likes girlie stuff...if so a nice necklace or hair stuff if she has long hair. My daughter loves being "a princess" and dressing up.

Why not take her on a shopping spree while you are there? Brainstorm with her first (gets her ready and excited), give her a limit, take her to her favorite store(s) and finish with a great ladies lunch.

GREAT ideas! thank you ladies!

I just gave my 7-YO niece a pink freshwater pearl necklace. It wasn't fancy or expensive (I made it), but she LOVED it and has apparently worn it to school every day.

My daughter turns 7 on Friday. She still likes barbies and bratz dolls. She likes my little ponies too. She is really creative so I'm buying her things she can draw and create, cut and decorate and get her hands all involved! If she likes to read, books are great! My daughter loves the Junie B Jones books.
Coloring books, markers. jewelry, and clothes!!! My daughter had tears in her eyes when I came home with 2 bags of summer clothes 2 weeks ago!
I don't know about tom-boys, cause my daughter is not that!
The idea of a shopping spree sounds waaaay cool! My daughter LOVES spending money! Lord help her Daddy and her future hubby! :D

If she has a computer then all the girls my daughter plays with love WEBKIZS
they are a small stuffed toy animal that has a code and you can play games, buy funiture for there house learn stuff ect . The only place we can get them around here is HALLMARK stores .

Girly stuffMy daughter is all about crafts, barbies, and clothes. I think it would be a good idea to give her a Toys R Us gift card and then take her to cash it in when you are there.
Or you can do the shopping spree thing, but it might get costly if she doesn't undertsand the concept of buying only X amount! My daughter didn't even know what tax was at that time and so mommy always paid her tax. LOL

There are some really cool craft things with stickers, markers, paper, paints, etc....

Debbie :D

I don't know about out there, but here the "build-a-bear" is really cute. It's a store in our mall where you go in and purchase a teddy bear, unstuffed, and they stuff it in the store. I'm told that they will place a little "heart" inside it, too, and allow them to "name" the bear. They get a "birth certificate", and actually have some kind of "adoption" ceremony or something like that.

When I was younger, there was a "cabbage patch" craze that went around, for baby dolls, which was a bit similar.

Anyway, the basic bear is around $10, but they do have complete outfits available, too, which is where the costs can add up. Either way, though, it can be fun for them!

What I did for Christmas last year is to purchase 3 of the basic bears for my niece's 3 little girls. They were mailed, unstuffed, to them, so they could then take them to the mall and go through the stuffing "process", etc. I also included an outfit for each of them, just to get them started.

Best of luck! I'm sure they will be happy, whatever you do!

My daughter is 7 and loves Webkinz. Actually, so do all her friends, siblings, and me too! As explained, it is a stuffed animal with a code to bring it to life on the Webkinz website. There are lots of games to play and you can dress it and decorate its room online. If her friends have one, they can send each other little virtual notes and gifts. Her other favorite toy is Littlest Pet Shop but the Webkinz is the top pick by far. Around here, they cost from $10-$12 and you can get them at Hallmark and upscale gift stores.

How about a James Avery necklace or starting her one of his cham bracelets

Thanks to everyone for such great ideas!! She lives in Las Vegas, so I'll have to see about Build a Bear!

Oh, build a bear is so fun! But too easy to spend too much money! Little girls like to pick out all the accessories--you can easily spend 40-50 per bear!
Like the others, my 7 (almost 8 yr old!) LOVES to shop! She loves clothes, jewelry, barbies, and likes to read also.
(thanks for the info on the webkins....I've been debating that for my dd's b-day)
