Days until Wave 1: 41

Wow! It's coming up fast! Just found out that DH, who was going to take a couple of personal days to stay home w/ DS, has a huge week at work that week - He works for an Assisted Living Center, and they have 4 Campuses - and that week is the week they do their Family Festival - a different day for each Campus, and he is in charge of set-up, tear-down, & parking......on top of all his normal work (he's the Maintenance Director)....so now I have to figure out Childcare, when I thought it was all taken care of! ARGGHH!!!

katie0128
05-29-2007, 10:40 AM
Yuck! My DH doesn't have any personal days left... he had surgery in January and blew through all of his days except for 3 that we are saving for emergencies... For some strange reason he doesn't think that NC qualifies as an emergency. I keep telling him that if he doesn't figure out childcare and I miss NC, he won't need those emergency days because I will kill him.

I've been lucky - my husband is going to take those days off and the rest of the week because my brother is getting married on July 14th so it will be nice. Plus the kids start swimming lessons that week and he gets to take them to that as well. My husband's in retail and it's generally easier to get off during the summer and he's got a ton of vacation days to use.

Yeah!!! My DH doesn't have any vacation time to stay with DD... but she will go to daycare with her friends during the day like she normaly does.... I am really excited about meeting everyone!!

I'm getting really excited, too! I'm used to really big (60,000 people +), really motivating conventions. I'm looking forward to the more intimate size, but still really motivating!

Did I say I'm getting really excited?

I think dh is taking time off to stay with ds, but I've totally neglected to ask him

LOL Sandy, I think I have neglected to ask my DH about watching my DD as well.... Iguess we are caught up in the Pampered Chef excitement aren't we??

These were in a health newsletter that I get. It just arrived today and was perfect timing to post here.

Winging it. Know where you're going to stay for at least the first night, especially after a long flight.
Packing too much. Limit yourself to one suitcase and one carry-on. Put a change of clothes and your daily medication in the carry-on in case your luggage gets lost.
Forgetting essential items. Make a list of things you frequently forget and put it in your empty suitcase.
Trying to do too much. Limit the number of activities you plan into each day. Schedule free days for long trips.
Trying to get too much work done at the last minute. Spread things out. You'll never have enough time to finish everything the day before you leave.
Calling the office too much. This can be a sign of insecurity or trying too hard to control everything. Your boss and co-workers know how to reach you in an emergency, right?
Misplacing essential items. Keep boarding passes, identification, passports, trip itineraries, and other documents in one small, easy-to-get-to pouch or bag. Put a bright sticker or ribbon on your luggage to make it stand out.
Leaving town without making arrangements to have the mail and newspaper picked up - a sure sign to would-be thieves that your house is empty.

Some of these we have no control over for Conference (like planning too much in one day), but there are some good points in that list.

Okay, how about 9 p.m. in the lounge at the Sheraton? That's where I'm staying, and it's convenient to lots of places. I'm open to other suggestions, though.

hmmm.... many of us are already meeting 2 nights at the pub at the Hilton.

We need a new shirt! The CS hat with a bottle and a coc*tail!

just kidding. :)

And I won't be able to make it on Wed. night. My group is traveling home Wed. afternoon. Darn.

Sounds good except I think we might be going to see Wicked that evening. Maybe some of you will still be around after that?? We need to exchange cell numbers off line so we can try to connect if this doesn't work out.

Today: June 1st (my son's first day of summer break)

Days until Wave 1: 38

Weather in Cincinnati: I don't know - probably hot again. I don't have a window in my office and since my boss has had his door shut most of the day (I think he is napping) I can't see out his window either... oh well...

Oh my, seeing the days count down makes me all tingley inside (is that even spelled right?!) Anyway, I get the chills and excited to go and to think this is my 4th conference!!!

I have ordered a pin so hopefully I will meet some of you. I don't write many messages due to little time at work but I do read when I can so I hope I will recognize you and yell for those of you who are walking. I guess my Directorship will come for me to walk in January.

Days until Wave 1: 37

Today we worked in the yard for quite a bit and then went to my husband's family reunion. And it RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED for quite some time. Knocked out power everywhere and blew leaves and braches all over the place. At least it isn't as hot!

Chef Kimmo is one of my roommates for conference. This will be our 3 or 4 time sleeping together. Am I right Kim?! She is so much fun!! It is really exciting to go. I cannot wait!! I wish I was promoting, but who the heck cares?! I'll still have a ball. (until all the new directors strut across the stage. then i'll be green with envy)

Cool! I'm getting so excited.

I decided to go with the crowd this year and wear capris, since that's what most people don for Conference. I got a cute orange pair and an orange gingham blouse. And a cute hot pink shirt with a pink and black polka-dot ribbon sash for day 2 (HWC day).

katie0128
06-04-2007, 11:49 AM
Do lots of people coordinate their outfits to match the days at NC? What is the "dress code" for conference, anyway... business casual or just decent casual? And how much walking are we going to be doing? I guess I should actually read the information on CC, but it is much easier to post a question here when I think of it!!!
Another question - do we have someone who is collecting cell #s for Wave 1?

chefann
06-04-2007, 11:52 AM
Officially, dress is business casual, but most people wear capris/sundresses. Neither of which, in my mind, are business casual. There are some people who wear pink on day 2, since that's the special breakfast for HWC/RUFTH. There is a LOT of walking - we're usually on both ends of the convention center.

You'll see more casual clothes on day 3, as many people leave straight from McCormick Center to the airport/train station, etc. Well, other than new Directors - they tend to dress way up on Day 3 since that's when the new Director walk is.

I haven't seen someone collecting cell numbers for Wave 1. Looks like you just volunteered. :D

Banquets are not based on NED, they are based on Executive Directors. However, if there is no Executive Director or Senior Executive Director between you and your NED, then you will attend your NED's banquet.

and you'll get a little "ticket" in your conference pack that identifies which banquet you'll be in anyway.

chefann
06-12-2007, 11:07 AM
I'm going to be at Randy Weiss's. We're supposed to bring our favorite apron for the banquet. Kinda silly, but it's at least something (no theme or anything for the last 2 years).

JAE
06-12-2007, 02:09 PM
How do you find out about the banquet and any theme? Is it for all consultants? I think back when I attended conference the first time around selling PC my director actually went, so I just went where she told me to go. I'm going alone this time, and I'm wondering if I'm going to be lost and confused.

chefann
06-12-2007, 02:11 PM
If the banquet you're attneding has a theme, it should be communicated by your upline. It's up to each ED (and higher) to determine if they want to have a theme for their own banquet. Since you're going alone, I'd check with your Director to see if she knows anything, and ask if she can put you in touch with her director.

The first few days, it worked REALLY well and I spent all of my time either in the bathroom with him or in the laundry room... so his MD agreed with me that we should cut the dose in 1/2. He is doing better, but still isn't regularly regular! We get to go to the MD again next week! oh... boy... Can you hear the excitement in my typing?? Hopefully your DD will be feeling better soon!

Katie, I'll make sure you get your Stripper Star Ribbon at the Meet 'n' Greet.

How's this for silly? I thought that since the stars are how we "promote" here, we should have ribbons on our buttons, like the ribbons we get at conference. So I'm printing some up and bringing them to Chicago (with some sticky tape), so we can have "recognition" at the bar. :D

Hey Ann - I'm not Leah, but just wanted to chime in (I always have an opinion! )
I think it's fine to meet at the Bar - they serve non-alcoholic drinks too. Which is what I will be drinking at the Meet n Greet! ;)

A lot of banquet facilities don't offer soda for banquets, to make it easier on the staff. DH HATES tea - never touches the stuff, so I usually end up giving him my water. He was at a car show 2 weekends ago that actually had lemonade and tea at the banquet. That made him happy. :)

Days until Wave 1: 10... we are almost in single digits!!!

Whew... found a sitter for my kiddos on Wednesday! Good thing I actually remembered to do that! And for those of you following my NC hotel/transportation saga... first I have a room, then I don't, then I have a ride, then I don't, then I have both and then I'm not sure... well now we have MORE than enough room to get there (9 people and 2 minivans) and have AN EXTRA ROOM!!! The extra room is in the name of a clutermate that has been going through this dilema with me, so she is NOT going to cancel the room until the very last minute... we figure that if we cancel it, we will find out 10 minutes later we need it. If we don't cancel it, of course, we won't need it... Next year, I'm hitchhiking to Chicago and taking a tent and sleeping at One Pampered Chef Lane!!!!!

The Chicago Hilton is downtown. It's right across a park from the Aquarium and Natural History Museum. The Art museum is a few blocks north. Navy Pier is a great thing to do -shopping, restaurants, some rides. If you're there on Saturday or Wednesday night, there's a fireworks cruise on the lake that's really fun.

There's great shopping on Michigan Ave - the Magnificent Mile. Lots of great stores: American Girl, Ghirardelli, Hershey's, Apple, Crate & Barrel (5 stories!), Pottery Barn, Disney Store... plus Cheesecake Factory for lunch and dessert!

Can't believe it's July 1st - I was just downtown last night for a bachelorette party (my brother's fiance) and we went out to dinner at Harry Caray's restaurant - awesome food! and then went to Howl at the Moon (dueling piano bar - very fun) and then we headed over to The Baton - which is a show with drag queens (these "women" looked so good - it was kind of scary but a hoot!) Didn't get home til 2:30 after dropping several people off (I was the designated driver) - man I'm tired today - can't wait for next week:)

Thanks for all the great info Ann. Boy I wish I could have saved up more money. Oh well, there is always next year to go shopping.

Can I pick your brain some more? Do you know how far away McCormick is from the Hilton?

The Hilton isn't very far at all from McCormick, but it's not walkable, and I wouldn't try driving it myself either (I'm a chicken about driving in unfamiliar downtown traffic). Luckily, PC has shuttle buses for us to get back and forth.

ChefJeniLobdell

Great. How long do the shuttles normally take from the Hilton to McCormick? I am getting nervous and excited all in one and have too many questions. My director is out of town until Wednesday.

To sign up we can be at McCormick at 6:30? Then get lined up to go on the tour to Home Office? OMG I think I am going to have a nervous breakdown before I get there.

chefann
07-01-2007, 08:25 PM
Yes- registration opens at 6:30 on Day 1. You can be there as soon as it opens.

Shuttles to and from the Hilton usually take about 10 minutes.

katie0128
07-01-2007, 08:36 PM
For those of us that are at non-conference hotels (pfffft!) do we have to get to one of the "approved" hotels to catch the shuttle? How often do the shuttles run? I'm on the 7a HO tour... does that mean I have to be at McCormick and registered by 7a?

Good question Katie. I will be at the Sheraton but do I have to get to McCormick place and register before the tour. Does the tour leave just from McCormick Place? How early are we going to be gettin up??? I hope the poor souls in my room will have that tour also. Yes this all makes me a bit anxious. Ann--Who knows everyting--do you know these things and do you know how far apart the Hilton and the Sheraton are? I hope there is a Starbucks and a drug store near the Sheraton. Anyone know??

ChefJeniLobdell
07-01-2007, 08:47 PM
Thanks Ann.

Yep unfortunately Katie it is going to be an early morning for us taking the 7 am HO tour.

I plan on being at McCormick by 6:30 at the latest.

I think most hotels downtown would have a shuttle to take you to McCormick Place. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will respond to that one for you.

BethCooks4U
07-01-2007, 08:52 PM
I believe registration opens at 6:30 and shuttle busses will take us from each of the conference hotels starting at 6am. Don't worry about registering before the tour. It doesn't take long to register at all and everyone will be through and on the bus in time. HTH

I was on the 8:00 tour last year and was told by other consultants that I should be at McCormick no later than 6:30 to get registered and get in line for my tour. Well, I got up very early!....I got through the registration in about 2 minutes....there weren't that many people there and there are TONS of registration windows. I then had to walk around and wait for my tour....which was running very late that day. I don't even think we were allowed to get in line untill @<hidden email> 8:30. Luckily I met Jennifer (jdavis....where are you) and we palled around for most of the day.

Katie.... Yes it is usually best to get to a conf hotel and get on a shuttle. Hopefull you are not far. Have you looked on the chicago website to map it out? Last time I was about 4 blocks from a conf hotel, took me 15 to 20 mins to walk over. Shuttles run pretty often. you should be fine to reg before your tour. Usually the only cons. there that early are on the tours and they have lots of lines to move people thru quickly.

We are at the Swissotel Chicago... it's over the river and through the woods to the Sheraton Chicago we go (at an INSANE time of 6:30a!). I think we should have conference start at oh, I don't know... what about 11a each day and run until dinner time... I am NOT an early bird... this really sucks!

Rae, Rae... where are you???? You're up way to early each day... wanna be an obnoxiously cheery person and call me at 5a on Monday? Oh crap - she's probably not reading this thread since she's in Wave 2...

Workshops and general sessions are pretty casual Technically "business Casual" You will want to wear something dressier to you Exec banquet unless toey are doing a fun theme.

Also if you are being recognized on stage you would need to dress up a bit more.

I will be leaving here at about 5am on the fourth of July. Arriving in Memphis, show on the 5th. Arriving in WI, show on the 7th. On the 8th, leave WI at 9:30am to arrive in Chicago by 11 (recruit gets there about then). After conference I leave Chicago on Thursday and head to IA. Visit friend and sister in 2 different cities (one Thursday and one Friday). Drive to IN to visit friend on Saturday. Leave early morning Sunday to arrive home that night. WHEW!

If DIL has baby early I will skip IA and be back in WI!!

I am hoping to get some recruits at those shows and/or catalog shows and hopefully a Cooking show in August when we (DH and DS and me) go back to WI to see the new baby!

I want to tell everyone something else I found out. If you walk one block west to Michigan avenue, you can pick up a 151 bus for $2 and go south. It takes you one block from the Hilton before it turns west.
It might be better than a cab ride down and back!

Also, it runs all the way up Michigan Avenue so you could even pop on it to get the Cheesecake Factory in the Han**** center. Bet that bleeps out though! Yup it sure did!

As as for the person whow is doing laundry and packing.... DITO... what are you taking for everyday. I was thinking NICE Compris, button down shirt (t-shirt?), and my Birkenstocks. The solstice and sky are basically the same car. DH likes the front end of the solstice, but the rear and interior of the sky.
There's a billboard on the side of a building just outside work with a solstice on it. It looks like the car is watching the people in the park. :)

No.

It's bad enough doing my own. The part I hate the most is folding and putting away. I have a big "clean clothes" pile in the bedroom. :) That's why I'm taking tomorrow off, too - go through the pile, do laundry and pack.

Luckily, DH does his own.

mommyhugz1978

I hate the folding part too... as a matter of fact I have a whole laundry basket that I have to fold and sort through and decide if I want to wear any of those clothes.. I am sure I have a few things that I might want to bring..

Luckily, DH does his own.

One round of making his underwear pink and he was done...

Actually I have too many DH laundry stories...once while single and at camp he couldn't find the dryer sheets so he decided to dry his clothes without them. (He had accidentally thrown the whole box in with the clothes).

They said they couldn't get close to him for weeks and his clothes were so soaked with detergent...

And then there's the 3 months before we got married that he used fabric softener in the wash rather than detergent (had a big bottle of each there). I discovered that when I came to visit and checked the pantry...

My DH's way of doing laundry is through all the towels, whites, darks in together..... when I had clothes come out of the dryer with fuz balls on them.. and they were my good work clothes...... well lets just say I did not speak to him for a little while.!!!

chefann
07-05-2007, 01:41 PM
I don't think mine has ever made anything pink, although he used to put greasy garage jeans and slacks (business casual for work) in the same load because they were darks. I finally edumacated him about that one. And he does try to have a whole load of exactly the same color - doesn't understand that all pastels are OK together, and you don't need a light blue load, and a light green load... :)

DH's laundry is actually as colorful as mine! He refuses to wear white dress shirts. Or light blue. Or pink. So he has light green, medium green, 2 different oranges, black, black and dark brown stripe, cobalt blue, magenta, red... And lots of cool ties to go with them.

Christ Follower
07-05-2007, 01:48 PM
Ties? My husband doesn't know what those are. I'm lucky if I can get him to wear a polo shirt.

chefann
07-05-2007, 01:53 PM
I wish mine would wear polos more often. He's usually one extreme or the other: dress shirt and tie (work) or grubby t-shirt (rest of the time). I try to tell him that there are casual events that are not quite that casual! I think he's finally getting the idea- he has a few polos from car club events that he wears. But I really have to look him over before he leaves the house.

Just yesterday we were at his parents' for the Fourth and I realized that he had on an old pair of knit shorts - lacking structure, and making his butt look saggy. I told him on the way home that those are "around the house" shorts and he's not to wear them in public again. He asked me to leave my Kohl's charge on the counter today so he could go get some shorts. Yay!

My hubby has gotten better about how he will go out of the house especially if he is going out with me or to DD school sporting events. Now for running to the HW or auto parts store that is another story.......

Is your room so small that you couldn't request a roll-away bed? I would much rather pay for a r/a bed than lug an air mattress only to wonder how to blow it up - I mean I know us cheffers have enough hot air to fill a mattress or two but waist that air on the HO tour bus!!

You are typically allowed 2 items - put your purse in your laptop case if you need to. Remember to be careful with your liquids in your carryon!

07-06-2007, 09:25 PM
usually you can check 2 bags. Then have 1 cary on and a purse or briefcase. You can check your airline website to be sure.

you will also find all the liquid guidelines there.

Anyway, I was too chicken to venture out alone to find it. Maybe by next year.

O.k. - so Wave 2 doesn't get to have a countdown if we don't... so here goes...

Today: 05/29/07

Days until Wave 1: 41
I would guess, from today, 11 months, 24 days. That's 360 shopping days left until Wave 1 for 2008.

Notes for next year:

Post where you are staying, when you will be there, if you need an escort for the Meet & Greet. Age, weight, hight, interestes, OOPS that the dating site not this one!

But yes, Ellen, let someone know if you want to come and if you would like o come but are afraid to come alone. You are never alone as long as some of us are around! That goes for anyone who feels uncomfortable travelling in Chicago alone!
