Why Won’t My Family and Friends Take My Business Seriously?

Direct Sellers work their business when they want to, which ends up
Being a benefit as well as a liability. You can get your business started,
Yet set it completely aside if some kind of unexpected challenge takes
Place in your life. You can get started in one company only to decide that
You would rather work for a different direct selling company. Consider
How many people you have tried to recruit, or have successfully recruited,
Who tried selling another direct selling company’s products before yours.
Another scenario, just as common is that a good number of direct sellers
Have stopped their business only to realize that they want to get it going again.

When you change your mind about something it can be
Embarrassing – not always but sometimes, and especially if you change your
Mind about something somewhat significant like a job or a business opportunity.

Who, reading this, has never had a change of heart or mind about anything?
My guess is that it has happened to everyone, and that means everyone has
Experienced the challenges that come with changing one’s mind. Consider
Some of the negative things your friends and family might think if you start
Selling an additional or another product line:

-There’s a sucker born every minute
-What a flake
-I guess she didn’t make any money with that last company

One reason direct sellers have such difficulty getting on the phone and
Calling their friends and family as a means to get them started in their
Business is because they worry about people thinking those very things
About them! They wonder: How they can possibly tell their friends and
Family that they have in some way changed their mind?

Most of us can think of someone who announced that they were selling
Product line ABC, only to announce a year later that they were selling XYZ.
Now, if that person I just described is you, no worries. It happens. My goal
Here is two-fold.

In this article I want to show you how you can contact your family and friends
About any change of decision you have had and simultaneously I will show
You how to prevent them from refusing to take you and your business seriously.
In part two of this article (next week), I will show you how you move to the top
Of any company even if you put down your business for a good number of
Months or are now selling for a new company.

The most effective way to dissolve your greatest fear is to face it head on
And when it comes to an interaction with another individual, it is simple.
Simply state what you worry that they are thinking.

“Hi Ann, it’s Tammy and I have to tell you I’ve been hesitant to
Make this call because I worried that you would just think I’m a flake and
Then dismiss me as a friend, which I really don’t want to happen. But here
Is what’s going on: Last year I acted all excited about starting a business
With ABC, and I even convinced you to host a party for me. Instead of being
Seriously committed to doing whatever it takes to get that business going,
I gave up as soon as real effort was required. I now realize the mistakes I
Made and I truly want to give it another try. Is there any way that you would
Like to get some free ABC products this month by hosting a show for me
And my newly resolved commitment to this business?”

The real problem is that you stall calling because you feel it is going to be
Embarrassing and you want to avoid humiliation at all costs. However, taking
Responsibility is not disgraceful; it is heroic. When you are truly honest with
Other people, you set yourself apart from the average salesperson.

If you really want your friends and family to take you and your business
Seriously, be honest with them. Authenticity is what increases the chances
Of them helping you. How would you feel if a friend called you and revealed
What was stated above?

Dear Ann,I completely understand the frustration and disappointment that comes with feeling like our family and friends don't take our business seriously. It can be discouraging when those closest to us don't support our endeavors. But I think it's important to remember that everyone has their own perspectives and priorities. Just because they may not be interested in our business doesn't mean they don't value us as a person or a friend.I also appreciate Tammy's advice on being honest and transparent with our loved ones. It takes courage to admit our mistakes and show our vulnerability, but it can also strengthen our relationships and show our commitment to our business.I hope we can all continue to support each other and our individual journeys, even if they may not align with our own choices. Thank you for sharing this article and Tammy's insights. I will definitely check out her website for more helpful tips and advice.Best,

1. Why do my family and friends not take my business seriously?

There could be various reasons why your family and friends are not taking your business seriously. It could be because they don't see the potential in your business idea, they don't understand the industry or market you're targeting, or they may have their own biases and doubts about entrepreneurship. It's important to communicate openly with them and try to address their concerns.

2. How can I get my family and friends to support my business?

The best way to get your family and friends to support your business is by showing them your passion and dedication towards it. Share your business plan and successes with them, and ask for their feedback and advice. You can also offer them special discounts or incentives to use your products or services. Ultimately, their support will come with time and consistent effort on your part.

3. What should I do if my family and friends are discouraging me from pursuing my business?

It can be disheartening when your loved ones are not supportive of your business dreams. In this situation, it's important to stay true to yourself and your goals. Seek support from other entrepreneurs, join networking groups, and surround yourself with like-minded individuals who will motivate and inspire you. Remember, it's your passion and determination that will drive your success, not the opinions of others.

4. How can I prove to my family and friends that my business is legitimate?

One way to prove to your family and friends that your business is legitimate is by providing them with tangible evidence of your progress. This could include your business plan, financial statements, customer testimonials, or awards and recognition. You can also invite them to attend networking events or business seminars with you to show them the professionalism and potential of your business.

5. Should I let my family and friends' opinions affect my business decisions?

While it's important to consider the opinions of your loved ones, ultimately, the success of your business depends on your own decisions and actions. It's important to listen to constructive criticism and take it into account, but don't let negative opinions discourage you from pursuing your dreams. Trust your own instincts and stay focused on your goals.
