Travel & Gift Expenses for Hosting Shows: Can I Deduct Them?

In summary, you can deduct travel expenses for hosting shows if they are necessary and reasonable for your business. A hosting show can include events related to your business, such as trade shows or conferences. You can also deduct gift expenses as long as they are directly related to your business and not considered lavish. It is important to keep receipts for all of these expenses in case of an audit. However, there are limitations on the amount you can deduct for both travel and gift expenses.

My sister and cousin have both asked me to host shows for them this year. Am Iable to deduct the travel? One lives 117 miles and one lives 250 miles away. Also, am I able to deduct the gifts I give them? I always give my host a small gift basket normally around $15 w/ homemade items and a few small pc items.

I don't know why you can't.....you are working your business.

Absolutely. Now if your party is only part of your trip (maybe staying a couple days to visit...) then I would only deduct part of it but if you wouldn't be going at all if it weren't for the party go for it! And yes the gifts are deductible. Keep receipts.
