Group Activity Ideas for Company Meetings | Ot - Need Inspiration!

In summary, the conversation discussed a weekly meeting between two departments in different locations where the first twenty minutes are dedicated to a group activity. Examples of past activities include playing games like Scattergories and Apples to Apples, solving riddles, and even playing Guitar Hero. The upcoming week's activity was suggested to be a celebrity-themed game where participants would have to guess names without using the actual name. The game would consist of three rounds, with each round using different clues (words, charades, etc.) to describe the celebrities. The game is meant to be fun and full of laughter.

We have weekly meetings between two similar departments in two differe locations. We spend the first twenty minutes doing some kind of group activity. People have brought in games such as Scattegories and Apples to Apples, we did a riddle together one week and this week we even played Guitar Hero (the guy brought in his PS2 and his tv). Well next week is mine and I don't know what to do! I cannot do anything PC related as it's against company policies. Thought I would just see if anyone else has a fun idea.

Celebrities!!

Give everyone 3 scraps of paer, on which they write down the names of people most likely to be known by most people in the group (can be a real person, a character, even someone in your company - but the majority has to be familiar with this person). It is very likely you'll end up with duplicates of a name, but that's ok!

Put the names in a bowl or other container, and divide the group into two teams. Choose which team goes first, and give the timer (hourglass or watch or cellphone with a stopwatch, etc) to the opposing team. Set timer to 90 seconds.

The first person up pulls a name out of the bowl (they can grab a handful of names at once, but can only look at them one at a time), and can say whatever they want to describe the person to their team, other than saying the name. They keep going until the right answer is given. They repeat until their time is over. Players allowed to pass on names they do not know, or can't think how to describe, but can only pass twice. The third time, they either have to do the best they can, or choose one of the other names they passed. Rhyming ("first name sounds like . . . ") is not allowed. Once the time is up, the papers not guessed are placed back in the bowl (even if an attempt was made to give clues). The correctly answered papers are counted and scored, and set aside. The next team goes, and each team rotates until the bowl is empty.

Once the first round is complete, all names (even the duplicates) are placed back in the bowl. The second round done via charades, no noises allowed at all. Again, 2 passes allowed, unguessed slips of paper returned, and correct papers counted and scored. At the end of the second round, all papers are returned to the bowl.

The third and final round the description can be only one word. It can be repeated, but nothing added or removed, no charades, just the one word. When the bowl is empty, the scores are added up, and the winning team is declared.

One of the things which makes this fun is that each round builds off the previous. For example, Angelina Jolie might be described as having been married to Brad Pitt, and has big lips. In the charades round, the clue-giver might pout their lips, and in the final round the clue might just be "lips."

This is a really fun game, and always full of laughs.

I have a suggestion for your upcoming meeting activity. How about a team building exercise? You could divide the group into teams and give them a problem or scenario to solve together. This will not only be a fun activity, but it will also promote teamwork and collaboration between the two departments. You could also incorporate some physical challenges, such as a relay race or obstacle course, to add an element of excitement. Just make sure to keep it appropriate and within company policies. Hope this helps!
