Life in the Bates Bungalow: Drama and Gratitude!

In summary, The Furry Guy was injured while putting a ladder against the house. After a misdiagnosis and reactions to a few different medications, it was finally determined that he had two compressed nerves in his neck. He had surgery to remove 2 discs and fuse 3 vertebrae. He's doing well, but it's been a whirlwind.

I was just wondering if anyone missed me while I was gone. We've had a little drama in the Bates Bungalow.

In mid-July The Furry Guy was putting a 40-foot ladder against the house to aid in installing a light so I would stop tripping over cats and sidewalk cracks in the dark. He thought he pulled a muscle in the process.

It was getting better until Sunday, August 28. He was helping some friends when he felt like he'd reinjured that muscle. He had quite a bit of pain between his shoulder blade and his spine. That Monday was his last day at work. He's struggled with pain and numbness in his left shoulder, arm, and hand.

After a misdiagnosis and reactions to a few different medications, it was finally determined that he had two compressed nerves in his neck. He saw the spine specialist on Thursday, September 22, at 1:30 pm, and had surgery to remove 2discs and fuse 3 vertebrae at 7:30 am the next day. He's doing well, but it's been a whirlwind.

I'm really grateful for my PC business. The funny thing is that I had a show scheduled about 90 minutes from our house in the opposite direction from the doctor's office on Thursday evening. On the Monday before my host contacted me to reschedule. I told her that was fine. It was going to be a tight timeline for me anyway because of TFG's appointment, anyway. Well, praise God that she rescheduled. We spent Thursday getting his tests done and gathering info for work and the surgeon. We had to leave our geographical-center-of-nowhere home before 4 am to be at the hospital for his 5:30 check-in. I'm so glad I had the time and flexibility to do what TFG needed me to do for him.

I had noticed that you hadn't been on, but figured like all of us, life (and hopefully) business was BUSY and you'd pop back on when you had time. Sorry for all the drama...hope DH is feeling better soon, and we'll be praying!

Oh wow! What a ride!I hope he is feeling better now.....back in Jan 2009, I had surgery on my L5-S1 disc ~ it had herniated at 55% and did quite a bit of damage to the never down my right leg. 14 months later, I had the same surgery on the same disc - this time it went to the left! We are hoping and praying that I won't need to be fused...That pain is intense! I kept asking when do I get to black out and the nurses would laugh at me! That pain was worse than labor and delivery, I kid you not!Welcome back!Karen

Yes, I did miss your comments and advice.. and agree that selling PC gives us the time and flexibility to change our plans so quickly .... Hoping that everything is ok now and continued good progress for your hubbie

WElcome back...and sorry TFG is going through all of this!!!

Welcome back Rae! Thoughts and prayers are being sent that the healing process continues to go well.

I actually thought of you today (before I logged on to CS) because I looked at the calendar and thought "three months from yesterday is Christmas"! Then I thought of your countdown. ;)

Have a wonderful day!

Yes, I missed you!

But my aim is improving!

Welcome back! (((Hugs))) to him on all his issues. Ouch! I hope he's feeling better soon.

I'm glad to hear TFG is doing better.

I can't say I missed you, since I keep up with you on FB, but if it weren't for that I surely would have!

I knew a lot of you were aware of the drama from FB. One of the many advantages of modern technology. ;)The Furry Guy's doing pretty well. The nerves heal slowly, but his incision is doing well. The biggest problem he's facing now is that all of this rest is making him achy. The man's not really used to being inactive.
