I Need Something Fun and Ridiculous to Talk About!

In summary, the lady was unhappy because her copay was high and her friend got the shot for a much lower price.

I am working a contract job for a few weeks installing new laptops in a hospital system. I placed one today for an older doctor. He has issues with the icons so we made them bigger so he could see them better. A few hours later he came out of his office looking for us. He said he had a problem with his new laptop and asked us to come into his office. He said that after we set it up for him everything looked fine but then he was having trouble seeing the icons again after he came back from seeing a patient. Well, I asked what the problem was. He said he could not see the icons or the screen very well still. He proceeded to take the laptop off his desk, where we did the initial set up, and placed it on his lap! I told him we could not make the icons larger and that if he put it back on his desk and used it there it would be OK. He looked at me like I had two heads and simply said, "I thought it was supposed to be used like this as it is a laptop computer and not a desktop unit. And it gets quite uncomfortably warm too and I don't think that is good." Bill, my partner in crime, left hurriedly and I almost wet myself! Not out loud and not really, God forbid he is a doctor after all, but... And how was your week?

Please tell us that he is a toe/foot specialist and not a heart or brain doc... please...

:) Yesterday was my half day at my new job (you get off early one day if you work that Saturday) and of course all the drama happened at work while I was gone yesterday. Right when I was leaving a husband and wife came in to the office (I work for an eye doctor) and the wife refused to let us make copies of their medical insurance cards or sign the release form since their insurance didn't cover anything for routine vision care. We tried to tell her that if anything medical came up then we would have it on file for her and her husband. She still refused. I left for the day and came back this morning to find out that the husband exam was indeed classified as medical... Gee lady you think we would know what we were talking about!!And apparently I missed the big drama where in the middle of filling out their paperwork, a 15 year old girl took off and ran!! Just up and ran out the front door! The wife yelled at her wheel chair bound husband to go after her (really????!!!!!). He came back a short time later to say that she was no where to be found. It was sad thought because apparently she was on some kind of mood stabilizing medication that was no longer working for her so her behavior was becoming increasingly erratic. You would be amazed at the information people will give you while they are waiting for their appointment!

~We were just given a cat. I am going to choose to love this cat, because my children deserve to own a pet.
~My 6 year old got a little upset with me this week and said to me "Mom, you are worse than having a piece of banana in my sock."
~Found out by mistake last night, that the new French Fry Cutter can fling potato pieces across the room like confetti!! Guests LOVED it. Don't recommend it to be used that way, but it did break the ice at that unusually quiet PARTY!!

Of course we don't know what we're doing, we only do this EVERY DAY. I work in a pharmacy. The latest "in" thing for pharmacies are immunizations, and the "hot" one (because doctors offices can't bill for them" is Zostavax (shingles). Most Medicare D plans (but not all) will cover the shot, but copays vary widely depending on the policy coverage you've chosen. The lowest I've seen is $50. Full cash price in my store is just over $200.

A lady came in last week wanting the shot so we ran her insurance. Her copay was over $100. She insited that my co-worker wasn't doing the billing properly because her friend got it at a different store for a $35 copay. They both have "Trust" insurance. All we do is enter the numbers on the card and submit the billing, the copay returned comes from the insurance company. Both ladies may have had the same insurance carrier, but they obviously opted for different levels of coverage. My other thought is that if they did have "Trust" insurance it is the insurance of the teachers in which case they may have retired from different school districts and their retirement coverage would not be exactly the same.

Oh, that's what she did because we "didn't know what we were doing." I would have loved to have been at the other store when she was informed that her copay was the same as it was at my store.

Much as I would have loved to be sarcastic too, we let her come to that conclusion on her own.

Had another Medicare customer whose husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Medicare billing on certain diabetic supplies does not usually go through the Part D plan it goes through the Part B plan. Called the customer whose wife answered the phone. I let her know that I needed his "red, white, and blue" card and any other cards they show the doctor when they go to the doctor's office to bill his new prescriiptions. (I had alread tried and failed the Part D plan.) She argued with me over the phone that we already had his insurance information as he gets all his scripts with my chain. I explained that diabetic supplies get billed differently (at least three times). She argued some more with me but agreed to bring his cards when she picked up the scripts "even though we already had the information." When I got off the phone I made the comment that that woman doesn't listen worth a damn.

When she came in (with the cards) she argued some more that we already had this information and we didn't know how to bill them obviously. In my state EVERY time you pick up a prescription you MUST talk to the pharmacist. They must make sure that you understand what is being picked up and you know how to use it (or so the intent is. Most of the time they ask if you have any questions and the customer says no.) Knowing they were brand new scripts, he asked a few extra questions and explained a few things. She argued with him a bit too and again made it obvious that she was not listening to a word we said. (Most people at least catch the gist of what you say and are polite even if they don't hang on your every word.) He agreed with my original observation when she drove away.

Yes, some people you want to slap silly but you can't.

Jane by the time you reach my age, you will be able to slap them silly in your mind as you stand there and keep thinking, "Do not reach over the counter! Do NOT reach over the counter!" And Cathy, I think he is a general practitioner as it was in the Family Medicine unit. He actually scared me a bit as he was well, an air head, for lack of better words.

Judith, I'm still giggling over a banana in my sock!

I think the statement that makes me giggle the most, though, is "I am going to choose to love this cat…" because I am already anticipating the stories that are going to come from your relationship with the cat. ;)

A brain surgeon, no doubt. I found this photo of him in the Operating Room. "This is where the air goes in."

The Kitchen Guy and Carla, so very glad that I could make you both laugh!!! Believe me, life is never dull being a mother of these five children. I have been told by several people that I should write a book about the things the 6 year old says and does. I could probably make you laugh every night for a month straight, but I fear that Carla's husband would not appreciate that:) I will leave you tonight though with one of my favorites.

I so wish I knew how to post the picture that goes with this conversation, but since I don't....I will explain it. I had just found out that the six year old had used a red marker to draw a big X on the top of each of his feet. "Joel, why did you do that to your feet?" His reply, "Just in case I dream that my shoes look like my feet. Now I can tell them apart, because we all know that shoes don't have red X's on them!"

OK So I am standing in line at the store. I have two tomatoes and a head of lettuce for BLTs. The lady in front of me has a cart full of stuff and is loading them onto the belt while talking on her phone. The big expensive kind with all the bells and whistles. No problem. Moving fast, only one line open as I am at Aldi. Two more carts behind me. The total is wrung up and she swipes her food card. The checkout lady tells her she owes $151. Shopper closes phone abruptly. "I knows, (AR!), this ain't no $238 in groceries as I addsd, (Cringe on my part), it all up on this here phone. Looks, (UGH!), again!" Check out lady shows her the total. The lady now says to the register lady, "I knows, (GAG!), that these groceries ain't that much. You wrungs, (OOOOO!), them ups, (OUCH!), wrong!" The register lady shows her the total. I saw it too. $238! "Yous trying to cheat me! Get mes, (Royalty perhaps?), the manager." Checkout lady does. I have no where to go so I stay in that line after another register is opened and the people behind me are gone. I am enjoying this lady way too much. (I told you I needed something fun and ridiculous to do and this more than qualified!) Manager clears the register and asks if I would go to the other line. There is a steady stream of people going to the other line so I said I would stay there and winked at her. She figured out I had a sick but vested interest in the outcome. The process began again with this ladies groceries, her eyes glued to the screen and again it came out to $238. The manager looks at the lady and asks her quite simply, "Are you sure you entered everything in on your phone?" "Yeayes I did!" "Shall we get you paid, swipe your card again and get you on your way?" "No. I can't pay for that sh&*. I's gots to put most of its away." (I am not going there as I simply shivered at her broken English! English I am sure was taught at home!) They started eliminating and as that happened she got back on her phone. Funny how a certain class of people blame everyone else for their mistakes. Anyway, I got my stuff and got out of the store in time to watch this lady, with the food stamp card, loading up her $86.45 in groceries into a Cadillac Escalade! I mean really? Life sure is unfair! The IQ of a lollipop in a rain storm, the vehicle of a person with a fantastic job, (drugs I am assuming!), and she accuses the clerk of stealing from her!

a prime example of someone who is most likely a lifestyler! In order to have the most expenses and qualify for the most free money they lease the fanciest vehicles! The rules need to change. If you lease, there should be a maximum allowable payment equivalent to a reasonable car payment. If your payment is over that amount (a number that should NEVER be revealed to welfare recipients) your benefits will not go up. When I was on, I drove a "fancier" car, a Toyota Prius. I'm still driving that car today. I bought it three years before we needed the help and paid it off a few months after graduating off of the program.

The problem with the system is that it rewards bad behavior and punishes good behavior. It gives no incentive for people to get off their rears and get off the program. I have no sympathy for people who are "shocked/surprised" that their benefits have been cut off. It means they didn't get the documentation in by the deadline and/or they don't bother to read and open the mail they get from the state. The state kills a lot of trees to keep you informed. Then they go and backdate the benefits!! Sorry, it you got cut off due to your own fault, there should be no backdating. Your date of reinstatement should be the date you got off your butt and finally did what you were supposed to.

Here was my take on this. She gets probably a very good amount of food stamp money. Enough to cover the $238 she pulled off the shelves. But she walked in to Aldi on the phone and never hung the dang thing up the entire time she was shopping until she felt a need to blame the clerk for her error. Every once in a while I noticed she would tap on the screen when she put something in the cart. What she did was when she remembered, she added the amount. That's why she thought she only spent so much. She knew the amount on her card that was left. Being the 29th, I know she used most of the money on it earlier in the month because they are all dolled out by the 12th of each month. Her problem, stupidity. She was so busy flapping her lip on the phone she did not pay any attention to her groceries. I mean she really thought a full cart of groceries would be under the $87? Especially since there was a ton of meat in there! Even I am not that stupid! What I found so RIDICULOUS was that she made the error but proceeded to blame the clerk! This morning however, I find that my actions, sticking around to watch this women get angry about her error, was the most ridiculous thing of all yesterday. I could not leave though. For some reason I found it very interesting! Now if that ain't ridiculous, I don't know what is! And I have to admit, the vehicle and her on food stamps irked the daylights out of me. I had to fight for the help I get and I drive a 7 year old Spectra that is still running good but... My reaction, had I been the shopper, would have been one of embarrassment not anger and blame. And this is NOT the first time I have witnessed this with this type of person.

A really fun one! I was in Racine this last week installing laptops for the hospital and clinics down there. I witnessed a man doing a happy dance at the nurses station and could not help but be proud! 51 years old, overweight and just found out that he had lost a little over 80 pounds since last July! He came in at 358 after reaching a top weight of 439 last June. I could not tell what the reaction was because IT WAS ME!!! Now that was fun! It had to look really funny to everyone else though! The nurse/manager who let me step on the scale and two of her nurses were all smiles from ear to ear! So it must have been a good show!

You have every right to dance. I wish I would have been there to dance with you. I have an aunt who a few years ago decided that she was sick of being overweight..so..she got a YMCA membership (so that she could swim)..and started doing the Weight Watchers point system..not going to meetings..just did it on her own. And she went from 436 to 170. Looks amazing. I was so proud of her. And I realize how important it is to encourage the people that you care about. So Congratulations..and keep up the good work.

Something funny. When my aunt started losing weight I told her that we were both going to lose enough weight and wear a bikini on our next cruise..she informed me that if she lost enough weight she wasn't wearing a bikini..she was going to a nude beach..so..about 2 years after she started losing weight she and I went to a nude beach in St Marteen.

GOOD FOR BOTH OF YOU! I hope you had on a lot of sun screen!! My problems though are not over. Even if I do not loose any more weight, I have those saggy skin problems. I have to buy stock in talc! I am hoping though that once I get a steady paycheck, I can join the Y or some other club as I know that targeted exercise is important to eliminate some of that. My doctor once told me though that because I have been over weight all my life, since age 9, I would need the surgery to remove all that excess. I don't have $$$$ to do that so... And right now it is too early. I intend to loose at least another 100 pounds by May or June of 2013. I actually want to turn 52 at most at 250. That extra 100 pounds will cause more skin flaps so...

This is ridiculous and not so funny as I think about it but... I think I have mentioned my neighbor before. He is a little older than I am a total creep and a drunk and well, his wife works two jobs and he installs carpeting. He leaves the house maybe 4 times a month doing this. Well, he also has two very large recycle bins. They are about 4 feet high and about three feet square. He is a drunk. Plain and simple. Well, this afternoon, while taking out his recycling, he had a beer in his hand. He tossed the beer into the bins and not the cans! Way funny. He stood there and looked in the bin like the can was gonna jump into his hand. Here is the really funny or tragic part of this story. He literally climbed in to get it! He actually fell in but then the whole thing toppled over and he ended up on the ground, covered in cans and filth. He proceeded to pick up his beer, left everything in the alley all over the place and went back in the house. Last I saw as it had started to rain heavily and I was in the garage, was that is was still there a half hour later! There is always some one else out there who has it worse than you. I feel bad for his wife, but then again, he has been like this since we moved here 15 years ago. why she does not leave him I will never know. Although I have heard the way he speaks to her and their kids.
