Hey all - I am a Girl Scout leader and just got a look at our new badge books that take effect 10/1. There is a rollout of new badges for all girl levels this year that supercedes the previous badge books (this is a transition year, though, so they can still earn the old badges).
Across the levels, each level has a cooking badge. It gets progressively more complicated as the girls' age increases. For example, my daughter's level - Junior (4th & 5th grade) - requires that they learn how to make eggs, make a breakfast, make a dessert (there are 5 requirements, those are the ones I can remember... the books aren't out yet - I just got a sneak peek last night).
I know there have been opportunities in the past for consultants to assist troops with earning their badges. Just thought I'd give you a heads up that the requirements are changing and if you haven't already, it's a good time to think about making yourself available to your local troops to help them. As a leader, I'm always appreciative when someone else wants to lead an activity!
Get in touch with your local service unit and you could open the door to many troops! Our SU has an annual showcase where vendors come and have a display about what kind of things they can offer troops for activities/badges. It's not necessarily a huge moneymaker but can get you lots of contacts. If your local SU is open to you instructing at a unit-wide event that is open to multiple troops, your outreach can be huge.
I'll try to post more info if I can get my hands on the badge books ("Girls Guide"), but most likely the details won't be available till we get them... sometime mid to late Sept.
