A 1099S form is a tax form used to report sales or exchanges of real estate properties. It is used to report the proceeds from the sale of a property and is required by the IRS for tax purposes.
Anyone who has sold or exchanged a real estate property during the tax year must file a 1099S form. This includes individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities.
You can get a 1099S form online by using tax preparation software, such as TurboTax or H&R Block, or by using the IRS's free online fillable forms. You can also request a form from the IRS by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM.
To file a 1099S form, you will need the seller's name, address, and tax identification number, as well as the property's address, sale price, and date of sale. If you are using tax preparation software, it will guide you through the process and help you gather all the necessary information.
The deadline to file a 1099S form is January 31st of the year following the sale or exchange of the property. If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it will be extended to the next business day.
