Fun & Versatile Dough Play for Kids: Ideas & Tools

In summary, the conversation discussed a fun idea for little kids involving making and playing with different types of dough using various tools. The idea was suggested to do with a daycare provider and invite moms to stay and participate. A recipe for homemade playdough was also shared. Additionally, there was mention of a previous show that featured edible dough made with Starbursts and powdered sugar. The conversation concluded with agreement that this idea would be great for moms with kids and would be easier for them to participate in without needing a babysitter.

I posted an idea for this on another thread, but it really got me thinking. This would be so fun for little kids. You could make the dough or several different doughs -- edible, scented, etc. Then, the kids can play with the dough with various tools (egg slicer, baker's roller, creative cutters, my safe cutter, crinkle cutter, garlic press, can strainer, ead??, cookie press??, etc.). You could then do another quick demo for the moms while the kids are occupied, or just leave it at that and play with the tools. Everyone would see the versatility, and you could talk about the other "normal" uses of the tools.

What do you think?
Any other tools you think would work?
Other ideas?

This is a really cute idea! It might be good to do with a daycare provider since she could invite all of the moms to stay awhile when picking up the kids or something!

That is a great idea.

Here's a recipe for home-made playdough (you could make it at the show)...

1 c flour
1/4 c salt
2 T cream of tartar
Combine in a large saucean and add:
1 c water
Vegetable food coloring
1 T oil

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 3-5 minutes. It will look like a globby mess. When it forms a ball in the center of the pot, turn out and knead on a lightly floured surface. Store in an airtight container.

A WHILR BACK THERE WAS SOME GOOD EDIBLE DOUGH ON ONE OF THE SHOW-STOPPERS- KIDS LOVED IT WHILE MOM & DAD WERE AT THE "REAL" SHOW... YOU MICROWAVED SOME UNWRAPPED STARBURST FOR i THINK 20 SEC OR SO, ADDED A TOUCH OF POWDERED SUGAR TO DECREASE STICKINESS, AND LET IT COOL ENOUGH FOR SMALL HANDS... THEN YOU CAN ROLL AND CUT IT, OR MOLD AND SCULPT IT- AND PUT THE GOODIES ON TOP OF CAKES, ETC.

Thats An Awesome Idea For Moms With Kids That Want To Have A Show But Dont Have Babysitters ... Easier For Us Moms To Do Something With The Kids Where We Dont Need To Worry About Them! Its Also Great Since Pc Got Rid Of All The Kids Stuff (unfortunately).
