Dried Minced Garlic vs Garlic Powder
I've got a recipe that calls for dried minced garlic which I forgot to purchase. Can I substitute garlic powder? If so, would it be the same amount?
Can't remember for sure how much, but it would be less. How much minced garlic is it calling for?
I am sure you can add in powder instead...I am not good at measurments, so I would add in half and then do taste tests from there. I would also do one for one of real garlic if you have it.
It's for chili seasoning mix (bulk) and it calls for 1/2 c of dried minced garlic. Should I try 1/4 c, you think?

A head or bulb of garlic usually contains about 10 cloves. 1 clove = 1 teaspoon chopped garlic = 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic = 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder = 1/2 teaspoon garlic flakes = 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic = 1/2 teaspoon garlic juice
granulated garlic (provides flavor, but not texture) OR
garlic flakes (Substitute 1/2 teaspoon garlic flakes for every clove of garlic) OR
garlic powder (Substitute 1/8 teaspoon powder for every clove of garlic called for in recipe.) OR
garlic salt (Substitute 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt for every clove of fresh garlic called for in recipe. Reduce salt in recipe.) OR
asafetida (powder) OR
garlic juice (especially when you want the flavor, but not the pungency, of garlic) OR
Use a lot less. The garlic powder is going to be a lot stronger (and depending on which kind you have may have a lot of salt in it).
