I have a new consultant on my team that's struggling. She's not a real go-getter anyway, but she called me this morning to talk about some things from her party last night.

At her grand opening that I went to, she had a past consultant there as a guest. No biggie, right? WRONG! This past consultant told her that she was doing everything wrong, had the guts to tell new consultant that the HOST was supposed to do the party and made the HOST do the demonstration!  She wouldn't let the new consultant figure the orders and then, get this, when new consultant did the recruiting and bookings talk.... She was talking with the lady next to her & not giving the new consultant the benefit of respect. I couldn't believe it.

Unfortunately, past consultant is new consultant's next host. I'm debating whether I should go with new consultant to help her out or let her do it on her own. She really felt like she should just quit b/c this wasn't how I taught her to do things & she was trying to explain that to the past consultant but she doesn't have a real strong personality to tell the past consultant to sit down & be quiet. I would love to call past consultant and tell her this myself but I know it's not my place. If she's that interested in doing parties again, maybe she should re-sign!

Just had to get that off my chest. Any suggestions for helping new consultant? She would really benefit from the business if she could just get things rolling.

I'm tired of hauling around crates, etc and them being so heavy no matter what I do! I limit it to 2 product crates/bags, and then I end up with 2 for catalogs, my laptop, food, etc.

I am seriously considering getting the Rolling Case and the Carry-All Tote to fit on top of it.

What size are they, and when loaded- is the rolling cart sturdy? Is the Handle- when extended strong? I know sometimes they seem to be weak and I'm afraid they'll break.

The padded envelopes- the photo on the Supply Fact sheet- makes it look like the smaller one is holding either the DCB or the DCB lid? Is it big enough for that?

Are they worth getting? especially the rolling cart. (I know Sheila loves hers! :D)

I have been emailing several area bridal shops and bridal consultants to try to get my name out there to get more into the bridal registry and bridal shower market. I basically introduced myself, explained the company and how I thought their brides could benefit from what the Pampered Chef has to offer. I also offered a referral program, giving the consultant a small gift certificate with me for each bride that she referred that set up a registry or booked a shower with me. So, I received a reply from one of the consultants I had contacted. Below is the email I received:

Missy

Thank you for contacting us about your referral program. I am
interested in seeing if we could provide your information to brides as
part of a new promotion we are doing.

We will be offering a folder to brides when they come in for consults
that includes offers from wedding vendors for services that may be of
benefit in planning their wedding or in their newly married life. If
vendors have brochures or promotional materials we can include that in
our folders, or refer them to our printers to have materials made.
Our only requirement is that vendors offer our customers a discount or
gift because we are trying to market the folder to brides as one of
the benefits of setting up their bridal consult--they get valuable
promotions from us and from wedding related vendors that can help them
save money.

For 2010 we should do between three and five hundred folders. As
noted above, our primary requirement is that there be some discount,
benefit, or gift that is directed as an offer to our brides.

Let me know if you would be interested in such a promotion.

I am extremely excited about this possiblity, however, I'm not sure what I should offer? Should I offer a free cookbook (Season's best) when a bride starts her registry or books a shower? or some other discount or gift? I think this is potentially a great opportunity for me and my business, I'm just at a loss as to what the discount or free gift should be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There were no new developments in Paige's case yesterday. No news, no new developments.

In news of Candles for Paige, we had 61 candles as of this post. Remember, candles go out after 48 hours so keep lighting candles for Paige, her family and her three children.

Instructions for lighting candles for Paige are in the Missing thread, in this post.

On this date in History...

...in 1962, President John F. Kennedy announced the end of the blockade of Cuba. The naval blockade had been implemented when offensive nuclear weapons had been discovered in Cuba, seen in photographs taken over Cuba by U-2 spy planes. The end of the blockade was the last real action of the missile crisis.

...in 1982, the most improbable finish to a college football game took place at Stanford, between the Stanford Cardinal and Cal Golden Bears. Stanford quarterback, John Elway (you may have heard of him from his pro career) marched the Cardinal down the field in range to kick a field goal to take the lead, with only 4 seconds left to play. Jubilant Cardinal fans stormed the field, and the refs had to chase them all back and enforced a penalty on the kick-off because of the crowd coming on to the field. The kickoff was taken by Cal's Kevin Moen at the Cal 46 but rather than trying to run himself, he remembered an exercise from practice and he tossed the ball to Richard Rodgers, who tossed it to Dwight Garner, who tossed it just back to Rodgers as he was about to be nailed by two Cardinal. Rodgers tossed the ball to Mariet Ford who returned it to Moen who ran for the end zone - and right into the Stanford Band that had taken the field, thinking the game was over. Moen plowed into trombonist, Gary Tyrell. Known forever as, "The Play" it remains one of the wackiest endings to a game in college football history.

Watch this exciting ending on YouTube as John "Captain Comeback" Elway marches his team down for a field goal that should have won the game, but didn't..

"The Play"

...in 1945, in Nuremburg, German, 24 high-ranking Nazis went on trial for atrocities perpetrated during World War II. The trials were convened by an international tribunal with representatives from the United States, Soviet Union, Great Britain and France. On October 1, 1946 (you may remember reading about this on Oct 1) 12 of the architects of Nazi pogroms were sentenced to hang, including Hermann Goering, the leader of the SS and the Luftwaffe. He committed suicide on the eve of his hanging. Trials continued in Germany, well into the 1950's to try the lesser Nazis with 5,025 convictions and 806 executions.

Front Row, L to R: Hermann Göring, Rudolf Heß, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel
Back Row, L to R: Karl Dönitz, Erich Raeder, Baldur von Schirach, Fritz Sauckel

That's it. That's all we know as of 12:01 AM, EST.
