I know that our stones are hand made so no two are going to come out the same, BUT I just recieved my replacement Deep Covered Baker and it seems very different from my old one. I bought that one in 2007. My old base can fit inside of my new one! The new base seems more rectangle with sharper edges. When I try to fit the lid on it shifts from side to side and up and down, and doesn't cover to the edges of the base. My new lid fits great on my old base. Anyone else notice anything different?

YEP!!!! Exactly the same thing! Don't worry about the lid not fitting perfectly, though. Mine still works fine, and isn't a problem when I'm transporting it filled with food. I hope to get the padded envelope soon, but for now I use one of the reusable bags.

That was more information than you needed, isn't it?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main differences between the Classic and the New Deep Covered Baker?

The Classic Deep Covered Baker is made from stoneware and is designed for traditional oven use, while the New Deep Covered Baker features a more modern design with improved heat retention and is safe for both the oven and microwave. The New version also has a more versatile lid that can be used as a serving platter.

Can I use both types of Deep Covered Bakers in the microwave?

Yes, the New Deep Covered Baker is specifically designed for microwave use, while the Classic version is primarily for oven use. However, some users may choose to use the Classic Baker in the microwave for short periods, but it's not recommended for extended use.

Are there any differences in cooking times between the two Deep Covered Bakers?

Yes, cooking times may vary slightly between the Classic and New Deep Covered Bakers due to differences in material and design. The New Deep Covered Baker may cook food more evenly and quickly because of its improved heat distribution, so it's advisable to check for doneness a bit earlier than with the Classic version.

Can I use metal utensils on both Deep Covered Bakers?

It is not recommended to use metal utensils on either the Classic or New Deep Covered Baker, as they can scratch the surface. Instead, use silicone, wood, or plastic utensils to maintain the integrity of the stoneware and ensure longevity.

Are there any differences in care and maintenance between the two Deep Covered Bakers?

Both the Classic and New Deep Covered Bakers require similar care, such as hand washing and avoiding harsh detergents. However, the New Deep Covered Baker may be more resistant to staining and easier to clean due to its updated glaze. Always refer to the care instructions provided with each product for best results.
