I wrote off childcare when my son was younger. The Montessori school had a tax ID, thuogh. Not sure how that works with a babysitter, but I do know it should be tax deductible. But if your babysitter is a teen, they won't have a tax ID and I doubt they report the income.

Heck yeah! It is an expense that you incur because of your business! Make sure you keep a log or have the babysitter write you a receipt - you can get a duplicate receipt book at any office supply store.

If your sitter does not claim it then you can't claim it.

I think the above stated is correct about the tax id. You may have to get her SSN and then find out if they plan on reporting it. Most of the time teens dont so you would need to figure something out.

Right and if you think about it. . . how many teens are gonna claim it. Unless they are babysitting ALOT it really is not worth it.

Well, I've seen other posts where you can hire your kid to stamp catalogs, etc and write it off as a business expense. Hiring a tenn to babysit isn't much different.

So I guess, write it off as a business expense but don't fill out the Schedule whatever the IRS uses for "regular" child care. A tax accuntant in your area is who you should really be asking.

Anyway - I was remembering the separate schedule the IRS makes you fill out for organized daycare, not random babysitting.

I'm not so sure you can write that off. Better check with a pofessional for the right answer - then let us know :)

In Texas I believe you can pay them up to a certain amount.. just like you can pay your kids to help up to a certain amount. I believe you do need to keep records. Babysitters do not need to report unless they make above a certain amount. Even adults don't have to report under 600.00 made from one company. You could probably call a CPA or tax person for that info.
