My mom works at a bank and has told me that taking the debit card is better than a check because they cannot send back debit charges...if the customer doesn't have the money the back just charges the overdraft fees. i'm not sure if this is true for all banks or not, but it's true for both mine and my husband's.
bsaxman said:WHY CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS ARE DECLINED:
1.) Incorrect expiration date
2.) Customer gave wrong number/ Consultant entered wrong number
3.) Financial instituition requires CCV2 vefification
4.) Customer's card is blocked due to fraud
5.) Customer's card is blocked due to incorrect address
6.) Customer's card is blocked due to being lost/stolen
7.) Customer has no money!!!!
There are more but I can't think of any more at the moment. I worked in the ATM/Credit Card Department for 5 years at a financial institution, and while I was there I learned LOTS of information about declined cards, and I was suprised at the reasons why a card would come up as "declined"! So NEVER assume that the card is declined b/c the customer has no money! In my experience that is one of the least common reasons a card is declined! Hope you find this helpful!
Your debit card may be declined for several reasons, including insufficient funds in your account, a hold placed by your bank, or incorrect card information entered during the transaction. It's important to check your account balance and ensure that all details are entered correctly.
If your debit card is declined, first check your account balance and confirm that you have sufficient funds. If everything seems correct, contact your bank or card issuer to inquire about any holds or restrictions on your card. They can provide specific details regarding the decline.
Yes, a temporary hold on your account can cause your debit card to be declined. Holds may occur due to pending transactions, such as hotel reservations or gas station purchases, which can temporarily reduce your available balance. Always check for any holds before making a purchase.
Online purchases may be declined due to various reasons, such as incorrect billing information, restrictions on international transactions, or security measures implemented by your bank. Make sure that the billing address and other details match what your bank has on file.
Yes, many banks impose daily spending limits on debit cards to protect against fraud. If you attempt to make a purchase that exceeds this limit, your card may be declined. Check with your bank to understand your specific spending limits and any options to increase them if necessary.
