Triple Ditto!
I'll probably bring 1 or 2 of my clustermates along too. (I couldn't leave w/o my recruiter/friend (or I guess the friend part came first!)

It's kinda nice that the first day is over so early.
I don't know if my cluster has anything planned that night either; probably supper somewhere....are non-cheffer members of our clusters allowed?:p Do we want to meet at the Sheraton, or where? I know they have the Riverside Cafe there-indoor & outdoor seating, plus a whole area right beside it that's right along the river...

Sure, bring non cheffers... although I don't think my husband is going. They officially denied his vacation. I am just so mad at him! I am up for anywhere!

Our cluster is making plans for Conf. tomorrow night. I'll try to steer them clear of anything other than supper on Mon. night! Where is the Sheraton in the whole scheme of things? Centrally located? Near the other hotels? I think we're at the Palmer House.

Monday night would be good even if we do it kinda late like 9pm, what time does general session end that night? Things are different this year aren't they?
MissChef
06-24-2007, 04:26 PM
Or maybe some of us could meet for dinner and others could join us later? I don't know, if fact I had better call my director and find out if she's made plans for our cluster? My director is far a way from me so we don't talk like we would if I seen her every month! I'm close to my hospitatlity director and thank God we are in the same wave together!

yeah, I figured it out! How different things will be at conference this year! I'm used to general session lasting until like 10:30ish! I LOVE the fact that we will learn what the new products are on THE FIRST night~! Wahooooooo!!!! how exciting!!!!! Hope that means it won't take long to get our copy of the new catalog too!:)

So do we want to meet at one of the hotels or somewhere else in between? I can find us a place if that is so.
AJPratt
06-25-2007, 03:13 PM
I would love to meet where Lacy suggested... sometime after dinner and we could grab a coffee or something like that. If I may make the suggestion, I'd rather not meet at a bar because I don't really drink and I would love to be able to actually talk and hear everyone. LOL
lacychef
06-25-2007, 03:37 PM
I'm with ya on that Anne....I don't drink at all, so a bar is not my scene! I'm open to anywhere except that! I'll email my director to see if she's planning on a cluster-supper somewhere....
AJPratt
06-25-2007, 03:39 PM
I didn't want to offend anyone, so I'm glad you feel that way.
lacychef
06-25-2007, 03:53 PM
No offense taken here!
And trust me, you probably wouldn't want to see me after having a drink, I'd be so loopy! I'd rather be myself around my cheffer friends! I haven't drank in over 4 years, so it would only take a sip to knock me over! My dh quit 3 1/2 years ago, due to a drinking problem, so I haven't drank since being pregnant with our almost 4 year old. Can't say that I miss it at all!
AJPratt
06-25-2007, 03:55 PM
I had a bit of a problem myself. Actually, I didn't have a problem drinking at all... hence, the problem!
We should start a poll and see where everyone would like to meet. But I think Monday eve would be the best.

Not a coffee franchise!!! JK!
chefann
06-25-2007, 04:22 PM
I know- that's sacrelige (sp?) to you, but I remembered it was there, and it would be a recognizable storefront to many people.
North on Michigan a few blocks from the Hilton (and not too bad of a walk from the Palmer House) is a Corner Bakery. They're also a chain, but not a coffee-exclusive franchise. I don't know if they're open in the evening, however.

06-25-2007, 05:45 PM
It might be nice if we can meet somewhere halfway between the two hotels. My DH works downtown near the halfway mark, so I'll ask him. :)
DebbieJ
06-25-2007, 08:14 PM
Okay, there's not much. The "halfway mark" is really a business part of town, so not much open after 8 p.m. nor is there a bonafide coffee house in sight.
So we can go to one hotel or the other. Anne, what do the numbers look like for Hilton vs. Sheraton?
AJPratt
06-25-2007, 09:18 PM
Out of the list I have, it looks like more are at Sheraton, but not everyone said where they were staying, and some put Hilton, but there are two hiltons now, right?
DebbieJ
06-25-2007, 09:19 PM
We have
Hilton
Palmer House (owned by Hilton, but I still call it The Palmer House)
Sheraton
So depending on what name they used, we could be skewed. :)

The Palmer House is halfway btwn the Hilton and the Sheraton so maybe we should meet there. It is easily accessible via public trans or, of course, a taxi.
My DH says he's eaten lunch at the restaurant there a few times and it's pretty good.
Sound good? How about 9:30 p.m.--that way anyone who is going out for dinner with their clusters can join us later for a drink or coffee or whatever.

I'm good with this DebbieJ. I was hoping for what Lacy had mentioned before in the Sheraton, but I do understand the 1/2 way mark as being fair. I just called my director to see if there are plans for Monday night and I sure hope so, because I don't want to do nothing on that night! I'm sure there is though because my group likes to have fun!
So if this is good for everyone else, I'm in!:) ;)

Yes, that Corner Bakery or whatever it's called, by the Palmer is a good place! We ate there a couple times last year. Good food & really reasonable too! I don't think it's open in the evening though. We had breakfast & lunch there.
What if we have 2 meetups? In case some can't make the evening one. I know 9:30 sounds late, but I think we're done with general session at 6 (right?), then we have to take shuttles back to hotels, & get somewhere to eat, then to our meeting place. Of course I've learned that it takes way longer to get places in Chicago than it does here in small town KS! LOL:) Maybe us non-directors could do a Monday morning meetup at the Sheraton too? Just a thought!
chefjeanine
06-26-2007, 09:15 AM
I'd still be interested in a (late) Monday morning meeting at McCormick. Just a cup of coffee (or tea) and chat. Any takers? I know this would leave out Directors but we can still plan something for Monday night -- and then it would be easier for the rest of us to spot each other since we may have already met. :)
How many are arriving on Sunday?
DebbieJ
06-26-2007, 09:20 AM
The Corner Bakery is closed in the evening, as are most casual eateries and coffee spots. They cater to the working folks in that neighborhood.

Here is a link to a map. I highlighted the general area of the hotels. There are two Starbucks, both open until 10pm. There are a couple of other stores, but they close around 7pm. Take a look at the map and see what you think.

I would say hang out at McCormick, but I don't know if there would be anywhere to hang out/snack there. Two meet ups might be a good idea.

I just ordered my Cheffer button so you can identify me, but I don't know if I'll be able to make the meet up, since my family will be traveling with me this year and I don't know what my cluster is planning (this will be the first year in a while that we'll have a sizeable group attending). And if people are running late then they know someone will still be there if they want to come out? I don't expect everyone will be able to be there right at 8, although we could do an ontime drawing! LOL

06-27-2007, 09:28 PM
There is a 24 hour starbucks further into the city - but it may be out of some folks way (I'm not sure about everyone's access to transportation.) Another option is Chinatown were something is always open super late. Chinatown is just southwest of McCormick place.
There's actually quite a few late night spots here in Chicago, but our energy might be too worn out to venture into the city after all the conference festivities. :)
DebbieJ
06-27-2007, 09:31 PM
Joelen,
Keep in mind that folks will be coming from across the country to an unfamiliar city and will have no transportation.
That's why we were trying to keep it close to hotels or somewhat halfway between.
Our hotels are the Sheraton on S. Water st, the Hilton on Balbo and Michigan, and then the Palmer House in the middle. :)
Kathytnt

Should we start a poll with a couple of options of where to meet?
Start the Poll Anne!!! I'm getting more confused the further we go! We need to make a decission and a poll will be good. I'd do one for a morning place and a night place and those that can make it to both great but I defenitely think that the Monday night one should be our official one! The morning meeting is just an extra! But I definetely want that one to happen because most of my friends are directors! And I will be on my own, so I'd love to meet up with my cheffer friends so I don't feel like a loner!:o :D
So Anne, please start it! I am poll illiterate!!!!

Poor girl, brand new consultant & we're offering her up to be our guide, lol!
It was great last year because one of my cluster-mates' aunt & cousin live in Chicago, so her aunt came & walked us all around downtown. She also met us at the airport & directed us to the correct L train. It was awesome:)
OK, Jersey girl, get us all in line here!:p I say a Monday meeting at the Sheraton for non directors & those not on a tour would be fun, and then that night at the Starbucks is fine if we can share some cabs!

Sounds like a plan. I hope I can get over there. . .I'm at the Hilton.
Here's the information for the site of lunch on Monday at McCormick.
The Plate Room Food Court, located on level 2.5 of the South building, offers an interesting array of items available to take on the run or to be enjoyed in the adjacent seating area. Six food concepts are available at this location, including Little Italy, Antipasto Bar, Pacific Rim, the American Grill, The Carvery and Fiesto Bravo. So whether you are craving a gourmet sandwich or salad, Mandarin Orange Chicken with Fried Rice or an authentic Pastrami Reuben, you can find it all at the Plate Room Food Court.
We had talked about meeting at 11:30 but I think I'll try to be there at 11:00. . . there are a few "talkers" in this group. This can be an early (pre-workshop) lunch or breakfast. . .depending on which part of the country you are from.
Here's a link (I hope) for an interactive floor plan of McCormick.

I got gift cards for my hubby Taco Bueno (his fave), Arby's and Wendy's. A treat for each day that will be revealed gradually Of course Bueno has to be revealed first - This is the first time we have been apart this long
It was weird someone signed our guest page recently - See our webpage from when I got married

Thanks Valori. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
BTW. I'm searching my house for my large Chef Success button (which I had in San Fran). I still have the mini button so I will have that for sure.
I'm tall (5'9"), dark blonde, straight hair (shoulder length/bob) and I wear glasses. That describes about a million people.
I'd post a photo but I don't know how to and I REALLY can't stand seeing myself in photos.

I will probably be later to the meet up--more like 9 p.m. My cluster is meeting back at the Hilton for pizza and I'm not sure what time that will happen given that we all have to take the shuttle back after GS and all that. But I will be there--better late than never!
